Root Manually Mount External SD Card Froyo 2.2

Hello all,

I have disabled media scanning on my device and so the external SD card is only detected when I switch the phone on and it says 'Preparing SD Card' this is fine but when I plug my galaxy s into the computer and unplug it again my phone loses the SD card and I can't see it.

If I go into setting and SD Storage I can see my Internal Phone Memory but the SD card is also showing the internal memory - it's like its mirroring the internal card and so I can't unmount it.

Is there a way I can manually 'Prepare the SD Card' or mount it again without switching off the phone?

Media Scan and Rescan only scan the internal phone storage and does not prepare the SD card again.

Thanks for any help :)

On my phone (G1 with CM6.1 Froyo) I use USB debugging mode (to access the phone via adb). After connecting to the computer, it's connected as developers device (adb enabled, SD-card is not mounted automatically), then choose "Turn on USB massstorage" and SD-card is mounted, afterwards "Turn off USB massstorage" and "Preparing SD card" comes automatically.

Ahh thanks KejlyCZ. Please could you tell me how I get adb and how it is used?

Download Android SDK from here:
Android SDK | Android Developers
then enable developers mode on the phone - Settings/Applications/Development/USB debugging

Next time when you connect the phone, it will install ADB bridge drivers from development kit, phone will be connected in debug mode (you'll see small bug in notification area).
