Help Manually update to 2.3.6 rooted and stock

I got the new update! my phone runs sooo amazingly fast now! I love it. and the GPS is fixed ! =)) location is found really fast and actually knows my location! (before it was always putting me 5 or 6 miles away)

I just got mine (2.3.6 update) this morning... I don't notice any differences. :( in fact it seems to be running slower. what was the change? any ideas on why it feels spongy now? Worked fine yesterday .

Mine updated this morning to 2.3.6 also. Update went well with no issues.

Phone seems to be a tad smoother. Also my high Android OS usage situation seems to be corrected.

I got this two days ago and have only noticed one difference...when trying to scroll up or down and you have reached the bottom, u get a cool little blue gradient that now pops up.
Other than that, still runs at same speed (Keep in mind I use GO Launcher, as I can't stand the cheesy bright icons on touch wiz).
Really hoping we get ICS soon.

Figures.. I seem to be the only person who's S II is reacting negatively to the update. :(

and Willie, you are right, I just noticed the end-of-scroll-menu-gradient. Kinda cool... now wish the phone worked as well as it did yesterday. *sigh*

I updated mine for 2 days now. Android OS battery usage, GPS lock, power button wake up delay problems are still there. No different in speed. There are small hiccups here and there, but not sure if there were cause by the update.

How do I get this update?

You should get a notification and then it will ask if you want to update Android. The notifications are being done in random order over several days ... mine just came yesterday. Best to do it when you have wi-fi, and make sure your battery isn't too low.

Mostly it fixes a problem with losing reception, but there are a few other tweaks. Overall, you probably won't notice much (unless you're one of the folks who have had bad problems with LOS).

For those wanting to get this update before it gets pushed to their phone, look near the bottom of the thread at the link below. There is a link there with the update in a .zip file and a video detailing how to perform the update. I did it last night and it went smooth. I also put a quick write-up on what I've noticed since the update.

When I try to do this it keeps telling me I need to "insert a disk into removable disk G", what am I doing wrong? Any help appreciated. thanks

I didn't have any LOS issues, but the signal did jump around constantly. After updating, it is a lot more stable. And maybe a slight improvement in signal strength.

After plugging in your phone, pull down the notification bar and tap the 'USB Connected' notification to mount the phone as a USB device. When you do that, a screen will pop up with the Android dude (he has a USB arm by the way). Click the button at the bottom that says 'Connect USB storage'. Now the phone is considered a USB storage device like a memory stick.

Tapping delete produces a distinct sound effect now. Also, in Gallery, blue gradients appear when zoomed on images and dragging to borders. Also, Media Hub got a new icon

yeah i did that but still getting same message for some reason

i'm on stock 2.3.6 and i've had no problems so far.

i also haven't noticed any difference in performance (battery, GPS, anything else) although it has only been a day since i upgraded.

MOST IMPORTANTLY i can still tether via USB with PDAnet. i haven't tried tethering via bluetooth DUN so i can't comment on that. i read back in september that 2.3.6 with other phones (nexus S i believe) broke tethering but i guess that has not been the case with this particular update.

I tried to update mine from 2.3.4 with system updates update firmware or update android but both said I got the latest. My question how do you update ?

I'm wondering the same thing at this point. Both my Son's and my GF's phone got the update overnight, but mine didn't. :(
