Many links not working

Example - Today I received my regular email of Martin Lewis's Money Tips.
At the top right of the 1st page is a list of normally clickable links. They do not work on my Nexus 7 but do on my Windows 7. Some of the other links on the Martin Lewis email do work ok on the Nexus
Any ideas anyone?

Can't offer meaningful advice without seeing the actual email, but it may help to know which email app you're using to read it on the Nexus 7 - they don't all work equally well on HTML-formatted emails that may use components that don't work on Android (like Flash, for example).

Thanks John. My email address is a "tiscali.co.uk" one.
As a matter of interest, when your reply came in from the Forum, as an email (again via Tiscali) the link to your message would not work on my nexus 7. I went to Windows 7 and it worked fine.

Thank you Paki. Your message was written in such a way that I am not really sure if you mean that "all are working properly" or " some are not working"

I'm sorry I wasn't clear enough in my question; I asked which app you are using to read your email rather than the account.

It's the mail app/program that is responsible for handling the formatting and links rather than the device itself, so it's crucial to know which app you're using. For example I read all email in the Gmail app - even non-gmail accounts - and I never experience problems with links. My guess is you are probably using the "stock" generic email app (awful IMO) or perhaps some specific Tiscali app, but I don't usually base advice on guesses... :-)

Hello John,
On my Nexus 7 I have just looked at the installed applications. None mention email. I can only say that I believe I am using the standard built-in application. As the tiscali email address is a POP 3 one; that might help you - but I feel you are looking for the equivalent to the one I use on my Windows laptop "Windows Live mail". Where will I find the information you ask - on my Nexus settings?
Just found more information in the "all applications" section of "settings" (not in the installed section")
It just says "Email version 6.1-937116"

It just says "Email version 6.1-937116"

Indeed. As I said earlier my guess was you were using the generic email app - which is called "email" in the app drawer - and indeed you are.

My use of this awful app was brief so I can't confirm it has the problem you describe but I strongly suspect it is the culprit. Fortunately there are many better email apps available from the Play store, all are generally better than "email".

I have used Maildroid with good results for my non-gmail accounts before I learned how to let Google pick up and forward it to Gmail, which means I see it all in one place no matter whether it came directly to my Gmail address or to my btinternet address. Very convenient :-)

Either way I'd avoid the "email" app, it has all sorts of issues that are simply not worth the effort of working around; instead use a replacement that works properly.

Links may not work due to the formatting by the email client used to send the mail. It may be due to sending in HTML, but it can be other reasons. Outlook is often guilty for example.

In the past I've tried several of the popular Android email clients like Aquamail, K9, Maildroid, Enhanced Email, etc. I've gone back to using the standard vanilla Android mail client for all my accounts, both Gmail and non-Gmail, IMAP and POP3, personal and business. It works fine, does what I need, and is very simple and reliable.

Oops just realised I have a generic Android email app as well as. Gmail. Would that be aosp or part of gapps John?

Hello "CrashDamage"
Having received your 0809 timed email from the Forum and as usual found that the link to the forum did not work; I forwarded that same email from the Tiscali address I received it on, to my Gmail address. When it arrived on there the link was clickable!

Yep, like I said some time ago... :-)

I'm sure there are many happy users of "email" but I'm not one of them.

You can get Gmail to handle other POP accounts automatically; open your Gmail account in a desktop web browser and follow this guide to use the Google "mail fetcher" or just Google "gmail mail fetcher setup" to find many other guides :-)
