Mapping keys on non-Sixaxis controllers: possible?

Thanks to the wonders of 'Key Test' I have full key mappings of a PS3 controller and an el cheapo ORB PS2 lookalike controller. But only the D-pad key mappings are identical, alas.

I feel in my bones that a key map substitution table can be made and stuck somewhere inside my Nexus, allowing me to play Dead Trigger etc, but I haven't a clue how to. Do you?

What about info about the keypress-equivalent numerical values probably mapped to games' on-screen 'virtual joysticks' and buttons?

Or have you an idea where such info could be got, please?
