Maps app wont quit

I'm looking for the right place to ask: How can I make my Droid Maps app stop?

"This application Maps (process com.google.android.apps.maps) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Force Close? Report?"

I touch Force Close and the box goes away for 10-30 sec then reappears. In the middle of the night the phone announces I should turn right on a certain street.

I've killed the app, moved it to delete, turned the phone off several times, deleted caches etc. I need more ideas before the ball peen solution.

Actually since you indicate having a Motorola Droid, my assumption being that you've got a original Motorola Droid, try posting your question to the Motorola Droid support forum...
