Help Maps will not turn off

guys, we are new to the S3 so may be asking some simple questions here

We tried out the 'Maps' function by entering in a trial destination, but now we can't get it to turn off. All day and all night it keeps voice messaging us with stuff like 'GPS signal lost' and others, and we can't get it to stop the directions we gave it.

We can't find a 'cancel' or off function for it either, and we think it's running the battery down more than necessary.

We also can't understand why it tells us it keeps losing the GPS signal when it is sitting still either, but we'd just be happy to know how to shut it up!

Do you have the Navigation icon in the upper left corner? It's an upward pointing arrow. If so, just swype down your notification bar and open Navigation from there or open your apps drawer and find the Navigation apps and open from there. Once its open, press your Menu button (lighted key to the left of the Home button). Select Exit Navigation from the menu.

If that doesn't work open Settings / Application Manager / tap Running at the top of the screen / find the 2 or 3 Maps entries / tap each to find the Navigation entry (back key to go back) / tap Stop to end the program.
