Hi recently my Google maps has started zooming out when using maps as a satnav.
When there is an instruction (take the next left etc) it is zoomed in as usual but when I've negotiated that instruction it zooms out to show the route up to 3 miles ahead (may depend on how far away next direction is). Is this normal now or a glitch?
Thanks
Andrew

Hi,
Go to settings >storage>cached data>clear cached data.
Settings>storage>apps>download manager clear data.
Settings>storage>apps>google play store clear data.
Settings>storage>apps>google map> force stop clear data uninstall updates.
Open google play store menu my apps and games update google map.
Reboot /restart device.

Nav Apps, regardless of device, change the amount of "spread/zoom" relative to the speed at which you are traveling.... or at least they should....

and of course, they zoom in tight for upcoming turns/exits

Hi, tried the resetting thing and things are still the same, but thanks anyway.
Maps used to stay fairly zoomed in (as did my TomTom satnav before that) but now it zooms right out (depending on how far the next instruction is) so that the next turn ahead is shown (up to about 3 miles away) and it's never done that before on any phone or satnav device I've had. There is a logic to how it does it but it's too zoomed out to show me any details of where I am like it did before

1. if you are following a route, it will always zoom out to show a larger area as you speed up.

2. if you are NOT following a route, it will stay zoomed in pretty close, and some map apps, will show the name of the upcoming Cross Streets

I live in a rural area, dirt roads break up the grass prairies once in a while...
the Garmin 2797 GPS will change display titles to show me the name of the next 1 mile county road almost as soon as, I pass the current cross road.

I do NOT use my cellphone for navigation, except in rare moments when I don't have my own car.
then I hit the Google microphone and say "Take me to....... destination" and it will bring up maps immediately and go into Navigation mode.

I find this extremely helpful in dense metro areas where I don't have a clue where I am, nor where I am going.... just the name or address of the destination.

Hi, the map doesn't seem affected by speed and I know about the zooming out a bit between instructions but it just zooms out a lot more than it ever used to and never zoomed out this much on my TomTom sat nav or previous android phones.

rereading this post,
I think that is the new app's way of doing it.
I noticed the same thing a day or two ago....

I personally don't really care, and I place the phone on the dash of the car and only listen to the Turn by Turn directions.

why on the dash?
when I put the phone back in my pocket, it looses the satellites because the car's roof is in the way.
