Help MAPServiceSamsung

I'm curious if anyone else has been having an issue with the process "MAPServiceSamsung" I've noticed that some days my batter life will be terrible and i'll check whats been using battery and "MAPServiceSamsung" will show up on the list as a high usage item right below screen usage.

I force close it sometimes and the batter drain stops, but sometimes it restarts and the drain continues to be bad.

There are also other times that it is running but ISN'T draining the battery.

Also sometimes my SGS3 will be a bit laggy and slow or freeze entirely and i'll get an error saying that MAPServiceSamsung stopped working and it was closed.

Its getting to be a bit frustrating and i don't' know if this has been discussed already or not.

Please help.

I've googled this and apparently this can be caused by restoring text messages using the Titanium Backup app (which I believe requires root). Have you ever done this?

no, i haven't rooted, i'm completely stock, i should have mentioned that.

Another link suggests that Kies restoring SMSes can cause the problem too - the recurring theme seems to be restoring SMSes in some fashion.

If you go into settings and then application manager, and find the app, apparently force stopping it can solve this problem.

Failing that you might need to do a factory reset. :(

Information about it is pretty scarce and I've never had the problem myself, just repeating what I've read.

i have restored messages once before with GOSMS, so that might be where the issue originated, i really hope i don't have to do a factory reset. I have some pretty important texts that i really don't want to lose and if i was forced to reset then i would still try to backup with Kies and restore anyway so it probably wouldn't be effective to even do a reset. Might as well wait for a fix that isn't a reset

I freezed my MAPServiceSamsung with Titanium Backup and did not notice any problems or issues other than longer battery life. :)

Last week I searched for apps that are safe to disable. On the list was Mapservicesamsung and it says it's the bluetooth.apk.

I just force stopped it (can't disable as it's greyed out), then started bluetooth and now Mapservicesamsung is running again. So it looks like they maybe linked

hm...I don't use bluetooth, so it doesn't bother me. I guess for those of you that needs bluetooth, you might have to test it out and see if it affects you.

i rarely use Bluetooth, i'll check that out and see if they are related in my particular case. I haven't rooted ....... yet, been trying to keep away from it for the time being, and so far the phone has lived up to everything i could hope for minus this slight battery drain issues with Mapsservicessamsung, i may root and freeze it if it keeps bothering me.
