Help market app gone?

I was using my phone, when i noticed that my market app shortcut had been removed from my home screen all of a sudden. I tried to add the app back, but when i went to look for it in my apps it wasn't there. I'm hoping this is just some stupid thing that is an easy fix. Anybody have any ideas?

Google changed their offering to "Google Play". Their own icon was automatically removed from your phones screen. You need to add to your screen the Google Play icon.

Main reason for the change is because Apple was hassling them...
 
I was just prompted to accept a new TOS that referred to "Play", but the "Market" header remains on my phone, and the upper-right app screen shortcut still works.
 
This is what I read from Droid-life. I don't have the Maxx, but my sister does so I'm sure I'll hear something about it when I get home Friday

As the Google Play store rolls out to handsets across the world, those of you with Motorola devices are noticing one thing in particular – it breaks your app drawer market link. Yep, it’s annoying and it won’t be fixed until Moto releases another OTA update. The Blur skin installed on your phone is looking for the old market application, but since it has been renamed, removed, or replaced (however you want to look at it), it won’t ever find it. I’m sure that crafty rooted users can find a way to manipulate Blur code to look for the Play Store, but the majority of you are simply ___ out of luck.

So when your market updates today – unless you did already – and you see this notification leading you to believe that your Android Market is gone for good…actually it is gone for good. Instead, try not to freak out and simply turn a couple of extra pages until you find “Play Store.” Yep, that’s what Google is calling the market these days.

*Note – Since Moto has about 15 different versions of Blur in the wild, this may not affect all of their phones. It’s definitely causing problems on the RAZR and MAXX though.

No, it's closer now than it was before. (iTunes app store vs. Google Play store [wow that is a stupid sounding name]).

I think they just decided to stupidly rebrand to create a more unified image for their various content. It's a mistake, the should have drawn everything under the Google Market brand. And the icon looks bad too...
 
I'm sure we'll never know the TRUE reasoning behind the name change, but I agree that it's a truly crappy name. Really, was 'Play' actually necessary in the name. Now no matter what you're doing there it implies that you're goofing off. It also belittles every good productivity and work app in the MARKET, by making everything in there seem like a game.
 
I updated to the play store, but my market icon stayed the same. I never saw a play store icon either. rooted is maybe why?
 
Same here--no root so that can't be the reason. I suspect we'll get the update that breaks the app drawer soon enough.

Yeah, my phone is the same. My guess is that they simply pushed out the new TOS to everyone but the new app is still to come for most people. Every market update in the past seems to have trickled to everyone's phones at random times over several weeks/months, so it's not unusual behaviour.
 
Why do I always get the updates first? Lol... Mine was updated before I even had a chance to log on here and see the news. I thought it was just a market update.

I like the cheap apps, music and movies, but the name is horrible. And it ticks me off that they broke the app drawer link for blur.
 
Market is now labled Play Store in the apps. My market Icon stayed on my home page and still works. Or when your in the apps drawer tap the upper right corner that opens the market also.

My Market updated to Play Store at version 3.4.7 (I never saw a 3.4.6--it went stright from 3.4.4 to 3.4.7) and the Motorola app drawer icon works fine. Also, the old Market app icon is gone. So it looks like Google and Motorola are cleaning this up. I'll bet everyone gets upgraded from 3.4.6 to 3.4.7 and the problem is solved without an OTA OS update :)
