Market Force Close

Hey. New member here.
I have an Evo 4g on the sprint network. Running android version 2.3.3 and Market version 2.3.4

My problem is that everytime I try opening the Marketplace it attempts to open, screen turns white and then it force closes. There is no error message and everything else seems to be working fine. I did not notice any problems before last night all though last week I had trouble getting some apps to update properly.

I'm not sure if it is related, but I could not get my phone to connect to the sprint network for a few days this week. It would only allow me online using a local wifi connection. I fixed that problem, though I'm not sure how.

I'm not great with cell-phones but can follow instructions pretty well. Thanks in advance for the help!

Now, i'm off to explore the forums.

Welcome to AF! :)

Have you tried clearing the cache and data associated with the market app?

Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All -> Market -> Clear Data/Cache. That might help.

I tried that. But when I go to that screen, both clear buttons are shaded and do not react to a press. I've also tried restarting, pulling the battery and changing the language setting. (No idea why that would work, but I read some threads saying it helped).

Its got me stumped!

I have no options answerable on that page. All of the regular buttons are faded and unclickable. Its driving me nuts. Haven't been able to update my apps in awhile, which has rendered a few unusable.

Download the apk file from the phandroid article I linked to above. Connect the phone to your PC and mount in USB Storage mode, place the apk file on to the root of your SD Card. Install Astro, then use it to browse to the apk file you just put on the SD Card. Click once and you should be given the option to install the new version of the market.

Seem easy enough?

....Or, just Tap the posted link above and the Android market will be downloaded on your phone. Fortunately, these smartphones work just like a computer. I just did it - One, two, three...and my old AndroidMarket was replaced by the newer version.

Also, your problem might be that you're not getting good "data connection," thus causing you not to open the market. You should refresh your data connection. Update data profile(menu - settings - system updates - data profile), or by turning airplane mode on and off. This usually work for me.
