Marred Screen Already

Pissed!
Damaged by a plastic ointment tube. I tought this thing was tougher than that. My pos HTC could take that light contact-aggg! I haven't had this phone 2 weeks and the screen is F'ed.
It is a lesson learned I guess.

you never know about glass though. I used to work with tempered glass and that stuff could take a wack like you would not believe sometimes and then I've seen more than one piece break by just picking it up. I mean literally shatter in a thousand pieces by simply picking it up.

And I'm not saying this phone has tempered glass, because I have no clue what kind of glass it has other than gorilla glass. I'm just saying you could drop your phone 5ft onto solid pavement and it not break and then drop a plastic tube on it and shatter it. Could have just been a weak point in the glass.

Yea thats true. I work in the automitve world. Auto glass is the same way. Ive seen people take 4 or5 full power swings with sledge hammers at door glass before they break, but a small tap on tje edge with a wrench will shatter one.

prolly not cracked. probably more of a scuff or gouge
Exactly, I was carrying it in my pocket not doing anything out of the ordinary. I must have knocked into something and the plastic top mashed into the the screen, It is more of a scuff than a gouge. It is about a 1/4" in size.

It still sucks. :(

This is going to be a dumb question I am sure....but did you remove the screen protector when they shipped you your phone? Mine has a factory issued screen protector that I almost removed and then realized that it might help out. If you have not removed it, you can tell that it is there by looking at the screen around the camera proximity sensor. You will see a cut out there and also around the earpiece on the top of the phone.

If you haven't removed it, this might solve your problem

I hate to sound like the big dummy that I am but you are 100% CORRECT!

I had recently purchaed a case and when I was installing the case I looked real close and /facepalm

It had the factory screen proctector still on the screen. Can you say happy? lol well and slightly embarrassed by sticking my foot in my mouth, but Ive been doing that forever so no worries there :D

But yeah, thanks for reminding me! It did make me a lot more aware of my phone. It rides on my hip now so I just have to try to not knock it off. I'm so clumsy at times so I really need to be careful. It helps that I almost runied my phone so early.

at least you are man enough to admit you are a noob :p

Thats funny though. I bet you are super happy your screen is still ok ;]

Haha, we all make n00b mistakes. I work for Corning, Inc. in the IT department, and get to talk to all the researchers there that we support. The glass is pretty nice, but they have gorilla glass 2 coming out here in mass soon. Samsung accepted the contract for their S3. Slightly stronger, less weight. It's very nice glass, but don't expect it to never get a scratch, no matter what, hardness factors always come into play.

I have screwed up enough stuff to know I am the biggest part of the problem most of the time lol. My mantra for a long time was if it doesn't work, force it and if it breaks it needed replacing anyway. /facepalm

With age come wisdom...for the most part anyway lol.

LOL no prob man!

My Droid X (nearly 2 years old) has been dropped, thrown in with keys, been attached to my motorcycle for an 8,000mile trip, and still the screen looks practically brand new. There is a hairline scratch that I can only see with the screen off, at an angle. Gorilla Glass is the stuff.

Screen protectors just mess up the sensation of touch too much in my opinion, and the protectors get scratched and look like crap. So suffer with a messed up screen protector for 2 years, then remove it when you sell/discontinue using it, and have a brand new/useless screen, or take your (good) chances on an unprotected screen, and enjoy a clearer screen, better touch, and better sunlight visibility while the device is still viable. Screen protectors are just another stupid thing for retailers to sell you to make an extra buck.

Well after having a naked Spec. for a little over 1.5 months I noticed a scratch at the bottom near the home button :( It doesnt really interfere with anything, so I decided to purchase another screen protector. To be honest I almost feel like at times, the naked screen is almost too sensitive. Anyway the one I decided to purchase is here: http://www.amazon.com/Anti-Glare-Pr...sr=8-18&keywords=lg+spectrum+screen+protector

They claim its "fingerprint free" so that was the main reason I decided to give it a try. It also comes with a Stylus pen that I'm curious to find out how well it works in terms of accuracy and ease of use when texting or whatever. I will post back after receiving and having a chance to see it how works.

usually the fingerprint free screens have a texture to them which takes away from the screen quality.

son of a b...I hope you're wrong imu lol. it was cheap so if I don't like it time to go shopping again :-)

have you ever used an invsible shield? IMO worth every Penny of the $20. You do lose a little screen quality but the protection and lifetime warranty is worth it.

I now have a stash of screen protectors just in case. Couple different companies. I am not a texture sensitive person so I am not picky.

Sorry about your screen I can truely say I feel ya!

I've never tried the invisible shield. does it show fingerprints alot? I suppose it's kinda funny that given I'm trying to find a screen protector I'm more concerned about finger prints...lol

LOL Keep us updated on how it goes

I got the new screen protector a few days ago, but just wanted to give it some time before I could make any legitimate/accurate statements. The screen protector is like most others, as it has 2 sides to it, and you remove the sticky side after lining it up on the display. The "fingerprint free" claims appears to be true or damn close to it as I really am unable to notice them. In terms of durability/protection of the screen it seems similar in terms of the feel to the one that comes already on the Spec. I am not really able to noticeably tell a reduction in the display quality either, but I haven't really compared watching the same video or whatever the case may be with the protector on vs. off. Long story even longer, lol. I'd say the description of it is accurate and worth buying. Hope this helps.
