Help Marshmallow Cache Size

I use an app cache cleaner - an old habit picked up in the days when my phones had no internal memory. I get a notification daily..usually telling me my apps have accumulated 100 or so total MB of cache size, and asking if I want to clear it.

Ever since Marshmallow, however, the daily cache used size has been approaching, and now exceeding, 1G. This ONLY happens on my 2 Nexus devices...original 5 and 9. The sizes were nowhere near this pre-upgrade. 2 Google apps -Chrome and Photos -are the main culprits, racking up about 400 MB each, even if I haven't used the apps or the tablet since the last cache clean.

Any thoughts on why this happens, or tweaks to control it? As a workaround, I have tried to find a cache cleaner that runs automatically on schedule. I haven't seen any in the Play Store that do so (even though a couple claimed to).
Thanks mates

The caches files can take up quite a bit of space, yes. Mine are at 1.76GB right now on my Nexus 6. Still, don't worry about it. They will max out at some point and stop growing. Any space gained clearing caches is just temporary anyway. It's the Fool's Gold of space-making. I've never deleted a cache file on this Nexus and probably never will for the life of the phone. In all the years and all the Android devices I've had, starting with the original HTC G1 and Android 1.0, I can count the times I've needed to mess with cache files on one hand, with fingers left over.

Cache files are there for a reason, to speed up system operation. Best performance is achieved by just leaving cache files alone to do their job. It does not increase performance to clear cache files. It decreases performance, wasting CPU cycles and power needlessly rebuilding caches. Clearing the cache often, some users even do it daily, treating it as regular maintenance, is totally unnecessary and counterproductive.

DO NOT clear caches. Just let them do their job as intended, relax and enjoy your phone.
