marshmallow Moto G 3

I have recently bought this phone it immediately downloaded marshmallow.

I notice in SMS texts in built in messenger , hangouts and contact+ smilies etc don't get sent or appear in the sent text.

Is there a workaround for this

This is based on your keyboard... are you using the stock Google keyboard?

yes I am using the stock keyboard which has smilies on it , they just don't get sent. Would you recommend another keyboard? If so can you point me to how to change keyboards

BTW if I do that isn't converted either - on my HTC desire C it is

Odd... I see the smiley face in your previous post. Maybe it's a language thing, are using English or a different default language?

I am afraid that's not it - these posts are from a PC - the smileys are from the forum menu (the default set)

AFAIK smileys on the phone are only on the messaging keyboard (SMS) keyboard but don't seem to transmit. I have 2 acquaintances with earlier versions of this phone they don't transmit for them either. It's as if the SMS encoding method is wrong - I tried the alternatives GSM 7-bit and Automatic same result.
