Marshmallow upgrade and others

Dkier

Newbie
I have been using rooted 4.4.2 Kitkat for a long time and decided to upgrade to Marshmallow. I got some questions:

1. Can I use the Nexus Root Toolkit to directly upgrade to Marshmallow or I have to do something like flashing or factory reset before that?

2. I still have Franco Kernel installed can the above toolkit bring it back to stock kernel?

3. Do I have to unlock the bootloader again once Marshmallow is installed to root?

4. Lastly, any recommended kernels to use? Franco seems outdated.

Thanks.

1.) Yes you can. Use the flash stock option in the toolkit and select the latest version. You can check the no wipe option to preserve user data but to be honest with this big of a jump i would probably start fresh.

2.) Using the above will put you on the stock kernel. It's just flashing the factory images but the toolkit automates it all.

3.) No. The bootloader will never lock again unless you lock it. You will however have to unlock developer options and enable OEM unlocking and USB debugging in the developer options. Also, after flashing stock, you can use the root option in the toolkit and check the box for custom recovery. That will also flash the latest TWRP .

4.) Not sure to be honest. It's been awhile since I've used one. I've been running stock rooted for a long time now. You might check out for a bit and see how your battery life is. Marshmallow is pretty darn good.

That's neat, I can just backup my files/settings/contacts etc. then proceed to flash to Marshmallow + root.

Thanks! Hope this will go well.
