Marshmallow

I know the answer to this is likely a yes, but does the official Marshmellow update use the LG UI or no?

Hmmm... maybe this is why I am not getting MM update file. I installed TMobile 10J via flashable ZIP file.

Once install I immediately got 150mb patch but it's been 24 hours after that, still no MM update.

Maybe I should install 10J from KDZ install.


Can someone reupload Tmobile 10J KDZ file? It seems like the link is all broken.

How do we come across these KDZ's? It would probably be better just to make a v10L KDZ rather than v10J so we don't have to wait for the first update to begin with. v10L is the version just before MM.

Yeah, my WFM phone did indeed come with the antenna. However, this is part of a funny/strange story. The first one I bought had a problem with the USB port, so I returned it. The new/replacement phone I picked up in fact was missing the NFC antenna! I thought it was a defect so I returned it again and got a third phone, this time with everything as it should be, antenna and all. So one of the three I picked up was missing the antenna. Not sure if this is a mistake or what. But now that you mention this it makes me wonder if something is up.

Yeah.. I did as well.. So I started with LG as Walmart didn't have a clue.. LG says its a T-Mobile phone, and I need to contact T-Mobile.. T-Mobile say's it's Walmart's problem, not theirs. Meanwhile I'm the one stuck with no functioning NFC. eBay has some but they take a month to get here.. I found a place in Texas, but they are out of stock as well. I think when these devices were put together, some have NFC and some don't.

It's 10L. 10I came and went several months ago and was replaced by 10J.

The update zip only has what are called patch files. If you look all the files i. The update.zip has a .p at the end of them. So the files are not usable until they are installed and the device boots up. I am not sure as I have not done the research on it but I think the Android runtime compiler is what makes the files usable. This is probably why it takes so long for the device to boot back to the lockscreen after installing the update. But as I said I have not reseaeched it so recovery may actually be what makes the files usable as it takes a while to install the update but it is almost 800mb in size to so that could be the reason it takes so long to install. Point I am making is we will have to have portion dumps to make a flashable zip in custom recovery and we need root to get the dumps

The T-Mobile and WFM model is the exact same device. But T-Mobile does not support WiFi calling on the WFM model. If you notice it gives a "Error: ER05 "Invalid SIM"" error when you turn WiFi Calling on. So this tells me that WiFi Calling was not in the deal that WFM made with T-Mobile to use the T-Mobile network for the WFM phone service. If you stick a T-Mobile SIM in the device WiFi calling works.

But you're right. They seem so fragile these days. We can't be fooled into thinking these are plug and play, and unplug and play. ALWAYS right-click and eject/un-mount the card before unplugging or removing! You'd think a fix to this would be the next big thing in sd cards, a way to protect from random unplugging. All it takes is one bad USB cable....

Have you tried doing a low level format of your sd card in windows? You need to install software for it though, this is what I use. I have saved several sd cards using this tool over the years. You will have to use the regular windows format tool on the sd card after the low level tool is done to be able to use the card again. I use a usb sd card reader to do this. You can get one from walmart for a couple of bucks.

Now about rooting the 6.0 update I have been trying several different root tools with no sucess. But it will help for every one that has the update to try Kingroot and then send a request for root as it will build the number of requests up and if we get enough request the Kingroot team will look into gaining root for the device. I am not giving up just yet though as I am still searching the internet and experimenting with adb to see just what is allowed on the update via adb. Good news is I finally figured out how to get the device into fastboot mode by using the command "adb reboot bootloader' now to see if I can take advantage of fastboot.

Also kingroot has a thread on XDA and a couple weeks ago. I asked about when they might start putting up a MM kingroot, as now it only goes to 5.1. They answered me today (two weeks later) saying they are working on it
 
will there ever be a way to just add a "downloadable MM" to your sd card and open it?

i just got the phone and don't necessarily want to root it right away .. I rooted my previous G2 and it drained the battery so bad i regretted it.

ill be honest im looking for the easy way at this point lol

I've never heard of rooting a device draining the battery. It had to be something you were using on it that drained it.
 
Now, where's the update for MetroPCS? And since I don't have a computer, I'm also waiting for Kingroot or some other root tool as well.
 
It's Metro, it won't get it at the same time as T-Mobile so giving it time is best if you don't have a computer
 
Would it be too much for someone to make a separate thread on how to updats to 6.0 so the same question of how you update wouldnt occur?

Hopefully we can produce a flashable zip with root, since my laptop is having all kinds of problems right now. But nonetheless, thank you to everyone for pioneering forward! Great work!
 
Im on an lg g stylo on metro . still on 10j over here and this phone is completely stock (never rooted it...nothing) but no updates yet -_-
