mass storage

Does anyone know if we would be able to set up a petition to restore mass storage to new devices?
I know a lot of people are upset by the change that now limits the flexibility of our devices.

I have a HTC One XL and ever since the update i haven’t been able to access my phone as mass storage (eg usb stick).
HTC has been no help they are just sending me round in circles.

You mean after you updated? Is there any reason you need mass storage? I admittedly thought that I may have troubles, but I actually find I don't need the function. Plus it lets the phone be used while being accessed on the PC, unlike mass storage.

Mtp isn't as well supported as mass storage. It was developed by MS so most Windows users are probably OK but you may be less likely to have it on say Linux (although the OpenSuse 12.3 I use is OK).

Some instructions for getting it working (if necessary) on Ubuntu here: Mounting your MTP Android

Going by that page and looking at my own tablet, it seems another option for users without mtp support is to set their device to use the better supported ptp camera protocol.

I definitely miss it butI doubt any petition is going to bring it back, Google is trying to drive everyone to cloud services. You can always try Airdroid to help with moving files, not as easy but it still works.

For what it is worth I have found SnapPea to work better than Airdroid.

One thing I particularly like is when you open file access it opens in Explorer so you can move, copy, cut, and paste just like you normally would.

As for getting mass storage back....you can always start a petition, but I think that ship has sailed.
