Maxx super hot, draining bat fast

This issue has just started last night or this morning. My Razr Maxx has been excellent up until now. I charged the phone for a few hours, and it was at 20% when i took it off the charger. It should have been higher charged than that. Ive been running 4G + Hotspot, as ive always done. No issues at all.

But today, my phone started getting super hot. So hot i couldnt touch the screen for more than 2 seconds. It was on the charger (and it showed it was charger in the notification bar). And the battery died. How does the battery die while its on the charger? After the battery died (still plugged in) i tried to turn the phone on. It showed the Motorola Dual Core Technology screen, then flickered a little bit. Screen went blank, and a white light on the top of the phone came on.

4G + Hotspot really sucks that much juice? No way. I can use 4G + Hotspot for 5 hours straight and it stays at normal temperature and still has plenty of battery.

EDIT:

Ok it finally turned on after about a half hour. Is there permanent damage because of it getting so hot? Will the battery life be reduced from now and on?

Mine did that a while back. Wasnt running anything, other than normal 4g service. It got super hot, I turned it off, let it sit for a while, then it was fine after that. Not sure what triggered it, but it hasnt happened since.

Its been happening to mine nonstop while hotspot has been on today. I turned hotspot off and it cooled down. Turned it back on, and it got hot again. But i use my Maxx the same as ive used it since i got it. The problem has just started. Im going to have to determine if the battery was damaged.

Battery level is now 20%. I turned Hotspot on. After about 5 mins of it being on, the phone is hot again. Wtf.

I've had this happen (without hotspot) in places where signal is very low. If I turn airplane mode on until I leave that location, it cools down quickly.
