MAXX Update....

Doogald,

how does one become an 'official soak tester'?

I am curious because I received the update when I started this thread and I was not a soak tester to my knowedge, It also seems like this thread was taken as someone that was going against an NDA, again, I don't recall signing or Seeing an NDA, so I assumed I was a regular user, just not sure why I got the update early.

The Wireless charging UI screen changed and it seems easier to place it on my charger ( using the Energizer 2 QI charger..

if Moto Skip works I am going to n get that now to try, having the phone unlocked while on my would be nice (like having BT on/connected to trusted device)

Nice to know, that's the same charger I have. Great for my Maxx & 2013 N7.

So my wife's droid was rooted when she tried to update. She forgot she was not supposed to update. No the phone is stuck on a reboot loop. Can some one link me to a thread to get this thing fixed and back to unroofed stock. Thanks

See ... Message #45.

As an additional note ... the repository for all root-related information at Android Forums is discussed in depth in the All Things Root sub-forum for each device.

Good Luck.

Hmm actually its been several days. Some were just delayed for some reason.

Not that this is important, but the official update was decided to be pushed to everyone late Thursday night. If you received it earlier and we're not part of the soak test, you were just one of the random non-soakers who received the update.

... and ...

It was announced to the soak testers at 9:00am Friday.

When it is pushed out to everyone it goes out in waves. My assumption is that it is to control the traffic load so performance doesn't go to hell on the network while they are doing it. The result of that is that you will see announcements by some people then that they got it and yours hasn't arrived yet.

So ... the mix-ups are ...

Send it to soak testers and others and the soak testers are under a non disclosure agreement while the others aren't. This is "interesting".

When it is finally being released the soak testers are notified after it is started and need to wait for the formal notification before they can talk about it.

The rest of the community gets their copy on some randomly selected wave of the distribution.

So it is not a conspiracy. People are not trying to be difficult. It is simply what it is.

Just installed this update today. Phone not rooted. Just keeps rebooting. Tried to get into safe mode still just keeps rebooting. Any thoughts?

Welcome to Android Forums. You can try ... Wipe Cache Partition ... and you will not loose anything.

If that doesn't solve it then try running in Safe Mode (disabling all apps you added without uninstalling them).

If that doesn't solve it the do a Factory Data Reset removing all apps and customizations that you added.

I'd just like to report that I successful updated today.

I had previously been rooted with pwnmymoto.

I used houseofmoto to fxz save data. I already had pwn downloaded so after I fxzed, I installed but didn't run pwn. Then I downloaded and installed the update.

Easy peasie. Camera takes great low light pics. No increased lte speeds yet I'm in an area with coverage. Nav keys aren't as bright and only turn off on Netflix. But don't turn off with youtube.

When I select any options in the fastboot menu(recovery or factory reset) it just keeps rebooting

I think you need to take it to your Verizon store and have them look at it. A replacement might be their solution since it was never root-ed.

I have a Droid Maxx and I'm getting a screen saying the new software is ready to download, it gives me choices to cancel or remind later. If I hit cancel, the screen comes back, so I have been setting remind me later for 24 hrs and then I have to go through the same thing.

Is there any way to get rid of this nag screen as I don't want to download the software as I'm **rooted**.

Welcome to Android Forums.

The repository for Maxx root-related devise discussions is at ... Droid Maxx - All Things Root - Android Forums .. you should check it out.

I just looked in there and there is not an obvious answer to your question.

I don't believe it is asking you if it OK to download. I believe it is already downloaded and is asking your permission to install.

Since this is a Maxx Update thread just thought I'd throw it out there, when do you think we will get Kit Kat. My prediction is spring 2014 (April or May)

I think officially more like July or August, but perhaps a ROM far before then.

At the Moto G launch this morning, Motorola announced that the X would see a KitKat update in "weeks". Hopefully, based on the last OTA schedule, we are about 4 or 5 weeks behind the first Moto X update.

I'd say that the first X updates roll out before the end of December, and the Droids are in a soak test by the end of January.

It's all a guess, but we'll see... I think it's long before next July/August.

My guess is sometime in the winter.

Edit: In a surprising turn of events Verizon Moto X soak test suggests Android 4.4 could be coming soon.

Which is kind of wacky because the order of soak testing for Moto X went first to the other carriers, then Verizon a week or two later. Then a week after that, our precious DROID's participated in the soak.

I'll have my Motorola Skip later today... I'll let you all know how install and usage go.

Double-posted from the Motorola MAXX forum:

"Good news here--I found the best of all worlds despite the fact that the Skip doesn't work with the stock Motorola email client and Exchange, due to the PIN policy that's enforced (there's no way to enable NFC Unlock on the Exchange server).

I deleted my Exchange account from my Maxx (which removes the security restrictions that disable the Skip and many other things) and installed and configured TouchDown (which is a phenomenal Exchange client). This leaves Android's device unlocking parameters accessible (including the Skip's NFC Unlock) and you only need your PIN inside TouchDown, and only after the password timeout period specified on your server elapses. Ultimate convenience and awesome email client--what's not to like (OK TD costs $20, but it's worth it!)?"

I see that the soak test has begun for Verizon's Moto X, hopefully this means we are not far behind. I am running the new Google Experience Launcher, outside of that what else should we expect?

I know it comes with the ability to use Wallet because of the secure element, but what else are you looking forward to?
