Maxx vs gNexus questions....

Sorry for the rehash, I've done a fair bit of reading & know the obvious differences (screen, no sd on gNex, no removable battery on the maxx), but a lot of the chatter has got me a little confused.

I was originally leaning gnex for the bigger screen & because I prefer open devices, but now I am worried about bad reception.

I am wondering about the use of the devices primarily as a phone. I will use them for internet a little as well. I get the feeling that the Maxx is a better phone in general with better reception and voice quality. True? How is the speaker phone?

What are the general complaints about the Maxx? I hear that some already have battery life probs, is this true? Can a Maxx battery be replace by a technician?

Thanks

If you are going to use the phone primarily as a phone the Maxx is definitely the way to go. The radio issues have still not been fully resolved on the Gnex although some people never had the issues to begin with. The Maxx works whenever and wherever I need it to work and does so flawlessly. The speaker phone sound is I would say on par with any other phone I have used.

I myself have no complaints about my Maxx. ESPECIALLY not battery life. But if you encounter battery issuses and the battery needs to be changed it can be done.

I have absolutely no regrets about the Maxx and I doubt you will either if you decide on it.

Happy convert from the GNex to the MAXX here. Much better device all around. I get strong 4G in areas that's GNex couldn't even hold 1x or any signal at all. No worries about the battery life and the speaker is much louder and very clear sounding.

I had several problems with the GNex with signal, call quality, and audio drop out on the GNex went through three GNexii and three different SIM cards and every leak and custom ROM, kernel, radio available and nothing helped. I literally hated making phone calls on it.

Switched to the MAXX, rooted it, and running ICS (6.14.79) and couldn't be happier. No reason to even look back at the GNex.

You won't be disappointed with the MAXX.

If we're talking about the Verizon galaxy nexus, not the gsm version, I would stay away. Worst reception and call quality I've ever had on a smartphone. I've probably had about 15 different smartphones over the last few years (buying/selling/trading on Craigslist).

Maxx is the better phone, gnex is the better device.

That seems to be what it comes down to. It seems the maxx is a fine phone by all accounts and a well executed design.

The gNex looks to be a better device on paper, but Samsung seems to have some bad QC problems on the cdma version. There seems to be quite a bit of sample variation and while some are getting good phones on the first go, many are not getting a decent one after 3 tries.

Furthermore, it sounds like most the razr maxx problems can be solved via rooting. ;)

I really wanted a gMaxx, mostly becuase of the extra screen size and I prefer more open devices, but it just seems to be a poor choice for so many people.

Verizon has a gNex lost call thread that was over 1500 posts long before they locked it.:eviltongue:

Thanks to everyone for all the advice.
