How far up the road? You might be able to see the plume anyway. They have been mistaken for UFOs.
If I drove all the way to Vandenberg AFB it'd be ~170 miles. And let's just say I'm no morning person.
The article says that the last launch of a Delta rocket, in 2011, could be heard as far as 50 miles away from VAFB. So I could knock off part of the drive by stopping north of Santa Barbara... Or not! There's no way this is going to happen. But I'll watch its webcast!
