My findings on working with Measy X7 and trying firmware from other boxes.
1. Geniatech firmware - Cannot be used since the MTD partitioning naming is different.
2. MBX tagged firmware seems most compatible. However with all of the firmware combinations I have tried, you loose the WiFi capability. i.e Measy was supporting RTL819x USB adaptors. Other have either a built in or even if they support other it is the Realtek (or is is Ralink) 2870 chipset.
The upgrade which worked well for me was the Sumvision firmware (however no Wifi support). It comes with market working, saving screen position, resolution, two launches the Measy type and the Gingerbread native. Dont recall if the Root is built it or not now. However it should be easy enough to do via a custom about 2-3 MB update.zip package.
It seems that the Sumvision firmware too would work here. Only just need to tweak the updater-script to bypass the checks, replace remote.conf and repackage and sign and run upgrade using the factory_update_param.aml method.
The 2.2.1 and 2.3.4 firmware is available at
SUMVISION - We Sell PC Hardware, Software, Digital Media, Digital Cameras, MP3 Players, Components, Networking Equipment and more...
Choose the Cyclone Android media center firmware and not the nano firmware. The nano seems to an oem of Geniatech.
