Help Media Scanner interrupts USB transfer

Hi everyone: I have had my Samsung Exhilarate for about 3 months now, and whenever I try to transfer files from it to my computer via USB, after about 15 seconds in USB mode, it shuts off to let the media scanner run. If I try to transfer any large files I get frustrated and give up because every 15 seconds the USB mode shuts off for the media scanner to run, and then I have to go and turn on the USB mode again, only to have to repeat this 10-15 times before the file can even be transferred. Does anybody know why this keeps happening, or how to turn off the media scanner while the USB mode is on?
