Media Volume = Notification volume

Lurker
I have a problem where the media volume which I always have turned down for music, controls my SMS and notifications, so I always miss them.

In settings>volumes, 'ringtone&notifications' it is all the way up, yet in reality the notifications and SMS is only as loud as what the media volume is. My volume buttons has no effect on notifications, only the ringer. Yet when I put my phone into vibrate, notifications also go on vibrate even with media volume up.

Any way to change this? Pretty sure media volume isnt supposed to control notifications. :(

On HTC Raider 4G. Android 4.0.3 HTC sense 3.6

I'm not sure if this is the case with your phone. But, when I go into settings-->sound-->volumes, there is a check box at the bottom that says "use ringtone volume for notifications." Do you have that checked?

Welcome to Android Forums.

I use ... Volume Control + Pro ... on all my Android devices to give me control of the confusing volume controls. (There is also a free version available.)

I use the display option shown below.

No, ringtones and notifications are on the same volume bar. But sms volume isnt affected by it, media volume is controlling it.

Yeah I found that. I got it so it auto changes my volume when headphones are plugged in. Still not ideal as i turn my media volume down even when not listening with headphones, but it's a little less troubling.
