Mega Frustration over Contacts issue

Hope someone can help me from punching a hole in the wall. :D

I am setting up a new Galaxy S4. I had originally imported my contacts from my Note 2 but somehow it did a massive list of contacts -- like every person I had ever emailed in Gmail. A list of over 2,000 contacts.

My core contact list is small, only like 50 people. Those are the only contacts I would like to have. The only way I get only those to show up in my Note 2 is to have them display only ones with phone numbers.

I tried to delete all contacts in the S4 (because it imported that list of 2000) and I no longer see them if I go to Contacts. HOWEVER... if i go to send an SMS message and hit contacts that huge list of 2,000+ is there. How do I remove those so I can only have my core list of 50?

Go to your Gmail and edit them into groups, with your 50 in a separate group. You can turn off syncing of ungrouped contacts in the contact.settings. also you may want to turn off Gmail's setting to save everyone you ever emailed
