memory problem- .thumbnails bug???

Hi,

ok, running ICS, 4.01 on a galaxy note 2 clone. I have moved all my media onto an external 16GB sd card, so thought it would free-up the internal 2GB. However, I realised it was not, even after moving all camera photos.

On closer inspection, ICS appears to be making a copy of data from every single picture it ever sees and storing it in sdcard>DCIM>.thumbnails the data in there quickly gets over 1GB. It NEVER gets deleted by the phone..

is there a setting to get this file regularly deleted automatically, or updated? When I do it manually, it makes no difference to the phone at all, gallery etc all work fine. but don't want to have to do it like three tiems a day!!

Thanks!

Hello tallnutt. I've seen more than one solution to this, my favorite being to remove the stock .thumbnails folder, then create a file by the same name, leaving it in the same place where the folder by that name was.

First back up what you want to keep in the Gallery, of course. I noticed that my Gallery appeared empty until I rebooted, then all was well. And the thumbnail/copy issue was no longer there.
