Help Memory problems with Gallery

Hi

My phone has developed a 'memory' problem with the gallery.

I am not running on a rooted phone.

Every time I click on the gallery app icon a message pops up saying " Not enough space. Delete unnecessary items, such as downloaded software..."

I have enough memory on my internal sd card.

I have tried a few things to solve this issue, which mainly involved restarting the phone and opening the gallery just after re-boot. This opened the gallery successfully showing all my folders, but if I left it too long it sometimes wouldn't open:

1. I first tried to delete some downloaded files such as mp3s from opening up 'my files'. A message indicated that the files had been deleted but they still showed up on the screen. So I thought I would just delete some pics.
2. I tried to delete the pictures from inside the gallery. This worked and showed them 'as being deleted'. However, when I returned to the files through 'My Files' - they were still there.
3. Next I tried to clear the Gallery cache. This will not clear at all.
4. So I tried to use App Cache Clear, this showed no cache to clear. I also deleted the app and tried to clear the cache again (thinking maybe a conflict or 'glitch'. Yup, it didn't work.
5. Next I think I cleared all data in my gallery (again the cache still showed about 43MB of data), the cache still remained.
6. Next I transferred all my pics to my external sd card and tried all the above steps, including deleting the pics folder. This also didn't work.
7. I then tried to delete the pics via Kies. It wouldn't allow me to and said that they were protected. (How? - something to do with being linked to dropbox?!)
8. I then tried a full factory restore. This didn't work.
9. I then tried to delete/wipe the cache from factory restore options. This also failed to solve the problem.
10. Internet searches haven't solved my problem so far...

So I'm not a particularly advanced user, but this has got me flummoxed.
- Why won't the cache clear?
- Why is it saying there isn't enough room?
- Why does the gallery show photos deleted but for them to remain?
- Why can't I delete pics from using my phone menu as well as from kies?


Please help as I can't think of anything else to do besides buy a new phone

Update:

I formatted the internal memory (after copying files) and this still didn't solve the issue.

So I had a bit of a tantrum and threw it in the bin.

I switched it on again this morning, and so far the issue has been resolved.

FINGERS CROSSED it stays ok
