Menu button long press- Google Search, can it be disabled?

I'm new to Android and the Galaxy S3. One thing that continually occurs is my thumb wants to rest over the menu button. This often results in a long press, and then the Google Search Screen pops up. I do not have Google now set up, though I'm not clear if this impacts my question. I really have no need for this shortcut, and would rather it be turned off. Is there a way?

Thanks!

If youre rooted you could uninstall the Search app or just remap the button. If not i think the answer is no sorry

Edit: check out Nova Launcher. In the payed version it has the option to remap the menu button in Gestures And Buttons setting but itl only work on homescreen so bit useless to you :(
