Root [Merit] Merit stock rooted cwm

out of ideas

Android Enthusiast
This is the stock merit rom in ClockWorkMod backup format.

DL and Unzip this file and you will get a folder. Take that folder and put it in /sdcard/Clowkworkmod/backup/. Then it can be flashed under "restore" in CWM.

If you do NOT have root, you can get cwm, then restore this image while still in CMW and you will be rooted. Nice and simple.

This is also useful if you need to go back to a stock rooted image.

This was from the stock unrooted backup Algree posted, then I rooted with jcase. I built the deodexed and my ICS rom off this so it works.

enjoy.

Then power the phone off , hold down menu along with volume up and power. Once im in CWM recovery I volume up or down to the bcak up and restore feature and then chose RESTORE? thanks

Erasing boot before restore...
Restoring Boot Image....
Restoring system...
Restoring data...
restoring .android_secure...
Restoring cache...
restoring sd-ext...
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Error while formatting /sd-ext!

If someone could please shine some light on my error and how to resolve this error as well as gain root!!!

You have to make a second partition in your SD card before it can restore to it. I also have the question ciuld it still reboot?

well now for some odd reason this phone will no longer mount mass storage I have enabled usb debugging and I swapped usb cables and ports at this point. And now it will charge via usb and the zte drivers are installed just no mass storage option that normally appears is the Notification bar at the Top of the ZTE merit screen.

Okay so ironcically my merit decided to mount usb I the formatted and partitioned my sd, installed the deodexed merit backupfile and I NOW HAVE ROOT!!! I have cwm 6.0.15 and super user thanks guys!!!!! by the way just a random thought does having root always ensure that on gsm phones one will also have simunlock?

OK so I was using cw's cwm and it made the sdext ext4 when that wasn't posted over here at that point

Found this at aa51.
" EXT4 needs work. The kernel hates me. But, it DOES work.

Sometimes this CWM reads/formats/restores the sd-ext partition, sometimes it doesn't

The most 'stable' is the v5 of CWM (Still has the issue of sdcard not usb mounting. But, I do have a 'cl"

So you can see what that's about.

This is still a stock rooted image. Download, follow instructions, install su and you are rooted.

Ill get a cleaned up version this weekend.

Yes. V6 of CWM is VERY unstable

Use my 100% CWM V5

Also, if you want CWM5 to restore a sd-ext partition, it has to be 2gb or smaller (I have NO idea why this happens. If it tries to format a ext partition for a restore, it fails. It's a known "issue" with CWM5, and since it's an older version (from cm7 sources), I doubt it will get fixed anytime soon.

Just use my CWM5. And if you want root from a CWM flashable file, that is also available over there.

Working on a new root method. Was talking with another person, and don't see why it wouldn't work...
