Root [Merit] SAFE TO REMOVE APPS- Merit

out of ideas

Android Enthusiast
So you rooted your phone and now you want to dump a bunch of stuff to make room. Cool. unfortunately, it's pretty easy to break it if you just start deleting stuff with no idea whats going on, so here are some safe ones.

This refers to apps in /system/app. Most of these appear in your app drawer, but not all of them.

1. If you have stock, you will need to delete the .apk and ALSO the same .odex. (alarming.apk and alarming.odex, for example)
2. Or you could flash the deodexed version http://androidforums.com/merit-all-...xed-stock-merit-update-zip-root-one-file.html and only have .apks to deal with. Your choice.

SAFE TO REMOVE( don't need em, and your phone is fine without them)
alarming.apk(alarm clock)
BooksPhone.apk
Calculator.apk
DocumentsToGoViewers_pdf_eval.apk
Facebook
GMail
GoogleQuickSearch.apk(you would not have that box, but you can use internet for google.)
LiveWallpapers
LiveWallpapersPicker
Maps
Music
NotesPad
Orkut
PlusOne
ProTips(this is theandroid guy that pops up on brand new phone)
SoundRecorder
stopwatch
Street
TaskManager
Twitter
videos
VisualizationWallpapers
YouTube

DO NOT DELETE UNLESS YOU HAVE A NEW ONE
Make sure you have an installed working replacement before you do anything
Launcher2(You NEED a launcher)
LatinIme(this is your normal keyboard)
XT9(This is the other keyboard){you can delete one or the other, but not both without a diff one}
Filer(get another file explorer)
Gallery3D(Something to see your pics)
Browser(internet)
Camera

SPECIAL NOTE

If you delete Email.apk, the stock camera will break, so get a new camera or leave it.

If you are just learning stuff, do NOT mess with anything else. Some can go, but some can't, so don't mess around unless you know your way around backups.

you're missing some apps that are safe to remove

googlepartnerfeedback is one them.

it's a garbage app that causes ad mobs

Easiest way, Go into your file explorer, go to settings, enable root browsing and all the other functions in the "root" section.

Then go to /system/app. Long press on the file you want to delete and a menu should pop up with "delete". do that.

Do you download a different File explorer? Cause the regular filer doesn't have a settings where you can enable root browsing nor does it have the /system/app. It has System but only has media after that.

I don't think I have these things in my phone. At least I haven't been able to find them yet.from the home screen where do i go? Please help
thanks

How is it i deleted so much from my phone.. yet it's still telling me low storage space?

storage space is /data, so dumping stuff helps somewhat with space, but the best move is partition sdcard.

your file explorer is in your app drawer. I think the stock one sucks, so download es file explorer or root browser or something from the play store. they will have the options im talking about.

got it thanks for the help.
is plus one google plus? also i have an app google settings that showed up. or i never noticed it before. can that go as well?

Google Plus can be safely removed. As for Google Settings, It's part of Google Play Store. It'll just re-install itself if you remove it.

I just got rid of a ton of crap. Nearly everything that is on the list and my phone is still showing the low space warning.what's going on with that?
Also I have spb shell 3d as my home interface, And a cool koi 3d wallpaper. that I want to keep. what of the visualization, wallpaper live wallpaper, stuff can I get rid of and still keep these running?
I can't exactly start venturing out on my own yet. I tried to get the titanium back up but fails due to low space. also when I can get it is the free one good or do i have to get the paid and if so is it worth it?
I know it's alot. You guys have helped me out alot and really got me excited about this stuff. thanks for all you help!!!

The Merit has crappy internal memory. Plain and simple. Either A, use a ROM with BigData or B, Start using Link2SD and partition your SD Card with an ext partition.

As for removing Visualization, and Live Wallpaper stuff. Feel free to do so, Nothing will break from removing them.

how about the koi live wallpaper? i want to keep that. also the spb shell 3d. will those be affected, if I remove the live wall paper and visualization stuff?

I can't answer that question, As I don't use Shell 3D, and I don't use live wall papers. If you still intend on using Live Wallpapers, DON'T REMOVE ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH LIVE WALLPAPERS.

If you take something out, you can't have it working. i think the visualizations one is just for the music wallpapers, but not sure.

Okay so I have boat browser and did a titanium backup of stock browser and then uninstalled it and now browsers say access forbidden. I restored stock browser same thing.
What now?

I have a merit and yes the internal memory is awful even after rooting and deleting lot of apps. I installed an sdcard with 32GB. How do I partition the sdcard with an ext partition?

Thanks again for all the help I've received so far from stayboogy, redfield, enlightened and out of ideas. You're all awesome!!

The only way to achieve this, is to use link2sd which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. It does require you to partition your SD card first. There are several tutorials showing how to do so (a quick Google search should find them).

I however have had a run of bad luck using link2sd. I don't know if it's the app or something else but everytime I install a custom rom, or use link2sd, I start having dropped calls within a few weeks. I eventually took my phone back to stock with root and have been living with very few apps because of the terrible storage space, but have not had a dropped call in months. That's just my experience though. :)
