Merit - All Things Root - Android Forums

Check out the merit forum.

Your best bet mght be to flash one of the stock images we have, or a different ROM then use an SDcard partition.

First things first though, you should be able to get it back to original from there.

Edit- Or the "Deodexed Stock Merit" from my signature might get you back to stock easy. Do you have a different recovery installed, are you rooted? (sorry if these are overly techincal questions)

IM SO NOT UNDERSTANDING BUT ILL TELL YOU EXACTLY WHAT I DID. I DONT EVEN UNDERSTAND ROOTING BUT I GUESS I DID IT. I INSTALLED THIS AREA 51 ON MY SD CARD BECAUSE I WAS HAVE INTERNAL MEMORY ISSUES AND ALOT OF OTHERS DID THE SAME. WELL IT COMPLETELY CHANGED MY PHONE AND I DID NOT LIKE IT. I HAD MULTIPLE APP INSTALLED MULTIPLE TIMES. AND STILL SAME ISSUE WITH MEMORY. WELL TODAY I WENT IN AND SOME HOW REALLY CLEARED PHONE OUT. NOTHING BUT ZTE SCREEN , SO I FOUND THE LINKS WITH Merit Stock Kernel, Drivers, and Modules

Merit Stock Recovery

Merit/Avail stock ZTE Splash

I PUT THIS ON SD CARD BOOTED UP AND INSTALLED THEN REBOOTED NOW I CANT GET ANYTHING BUT zte SCREEN AND IT WILL NOT GO INTO RECOVERY BOOT..I AM AN IDIOT AND STRESSING

Hi there, amandajmason131, and welcome to Android Forums. We're glad you're here. :)

I've moved this thread to the ZTE Merit - All Things Root board. Please take a look at other threads on this board, as they may contain the information needed to solve your problem. But feel free to continue asking questions if you have them.

By the way, it's usually not a good idea to type in all caps. It's considered shouting!

I did not realize I was even in caps, Im frustrated and sitting here with a phone that wont do anything except turn on to a ZTE screen and for the life of me wont go into recovery mode.

I know how frustrating it is when something isn't doing what it's supposed to be doing!

Don't worry, though. We have many really knowledgeable members and we'll do our best to help you get this sorted out. :)

Have you tried factory resetting the phone?

Or can you not get into the recovery at all? If you installed the stock recovery you should be able to get back to what you were at before you rooted. And what it sounds like is you installed your ROM on a different partition of your device, creating multiple instances of everything.

I'm sorry you're having trouble,

but,

you don't even know what you were doing in the first place which makes it that much harder for any of us to help fix what you've done.

first things first...

1) turn off the phone.

2) hold the menu key and hold the volume up key

3) with both keys held, push the power key for a couple of seconds and DO NOT RELEASE the menu key or volume up key

is your phone in recovery now? if so, then you need to download this file:

update

and put it on your sdcard, at the root of the filesystem of the sdcard--do not rename it, do not change it in any way

then follow the same procedure outlined above and get back into stock recovery.

if your phone is the Merit, then you need to choose the second option in the recovery and press the back key--this will install a new recovery (as long as you've followed the directions).

then you need to turn off the phone, and follow the same procedure as above and boot into the new recovery.

download this file: merit.stock.rooted

unrar it.

create a new folder on your sdcard called clockworkmod, open that folder and create a new folder called backup, open that folder

now, copy the folder named merit.stock.rooted, that has the 7 files in it inside the backup folder

your folder structure should look like this:

sdcard

-clockworkmod

--backup

---merit.stock.rooted

----.android_secure.vfat.tar
----boot.img
----cache.yaffs2.img
----data.yaffs2.img
----nandroid.md5
----recovery.img
----system.yaffs2.img

now, in the new recovery choose RECOVERY TOOLS

then choose restore

then choose merit.stock.rooted

then choose yes - restore

when finished, reboot the phone. your phone is now stock and rooted.
