Help Mesmerize Known Issues

So far some of the issues include:

Phone application freezing and not allowing calls - requires battery pull to resolve ('mac shutdown' as I like to call it...)

Some internet pages cause the browser to crash with no message

Email doesnt always work correctly, and occasionally wont download new emails even after a refresh - can also be resolved with a mac shutdown.

Scrolling between screens gets jerkey especially when moving to a page with a live widget like daily briefing.

No video out? Is this correct or can you use the same setup as on the captivate? Thanks

The only email sync that works so far is Gmail, and only after you activate sync in global settings, the email app, and the Gmail app. -_-

Forget it if you want POP3 to work.

If someone else is having luck with POP3 sync, please let me know.

I concur with Phone App crashing. I also have experienced the Phone App answering calls and not being able to hear the caller thru the bluetooth headset, only through speakerphone. Rebooting the phone did not fix this particular wonk. Its random, however, so I can't replicate a pattern yet.

The phone has so many other "Gee Whiz" factors going for it compared to Blackberry (and any other phone offering from the "always 1 year behind" US Cellular) that I'm hoping I can suffer through the annoyances.

Its very disappointing, given that this phone has so much going for it. USCC did the opposite of Verizon--they left all the Android stock goodies and/or Samsung UI goodies in place, they didn't force a lot of crap on us like VZW.

If it were just basic UI issues or some market apps, that would be one thing. But we're talking about basic smartphone fundamentals. All the things people criticized the iPhone for not doing, Samsung apparently didn't try to listen.

Make calls. Sync emails (other than gmail). Manage battery life efficiently. Master those three before you worry about Facebook or a live wallpaper.

So far, haven't had any of the issues mentioned by the OP. As for video out, I don't see anything in Settings > Sound & Display that would give the functionality of the Captivate. We don't have FM radio either. Luckily, we do have flash for our camera, and it can be used w/3rd party apps to work as a flashlight (pretty bright).

LaTuFu, what POP3 mail provider are you using? If it is Yahoo or Hotmail, you'd be best advised to use the apps "Yahoo Mail!" or "Hot Email" located in the Market. I've walked a number of folks through successfully setting up POP3 mail on all the USCC Androids. Mostly, it's an issue of knowing what ports (secure or open). That info is generally available for most providers through Google search. The one exception to this is that some schools are now using a translated GMAIL address, and these are quite difficult.

I feel fortunate that I have not experienced any of the phone call issues described above, but wonder if a Factory Data Reset might not clear that up.

I've had no issues setting up the ports and making the phone communicate with the accounts.

I've had issue with the accounts not updating automatically, even though I have them set on "check every 5 minutes". And they are only gmail accounts, not hotmail or yahoo. I have one non-gmail account with POP3 for work, and it does the same thing. All of them will manually update if I click "refresh" but none will automatically update. Only the default gmail account I used to set up my phone will update automatically. And that one will stop polling if I manually check another account. It won't update automatically again until I manually check it.

Its very frustrating, and I'm pretty close to returning the phone and getting another Blackberry. I hate the thought, because this phone is much nicer in every other respect. But this is a dealbreaker feature for me, unfortunately.

Are you using any sort of Task Killer on your phone that would be killing the email application?

LaTuFu - I am also having that exact same problem with the email. Most of the time, even when I click refresh it wont get my hotmail email. If it does, it takes about three minutes, even when connected to wifi! Thats just for about two emails. I hope the 2.2 or 2.3 fixes this, or I may have to go back to the evo.

Nope. I don't believe the hype on ATK.

I turned off sync on all the accounts, rebooted the phone, then turned sync back on after that. So far, it seems to be working okay. Its still an adjustment from Blackberry's push, (I find myself not trusting the phone to get the email at the moment) but it eventually gets it within enough time that I'm not missing critical info.

We'll see how it goes from here, I suppose.

For some reason I cannot get my exchange account for my work email to work right on my phone. Everything says its working properly on the server and through USCC I just cannot view my inbox or sent messages for some reason i've talked to a bunch of different people noone knows why its doing this USCC tried my account on many other phones also and it does the same thing. Ive talked to my IT guy and he cannot figure it out either there is nothing wrong with our server nor my service through USCC just that i cannot view my inbox or recieve notifications. Ive also tried the touchdown app for android 2.0 and above and it does the same thing. Anyone have any ideas let me know!

As far as the email, that could have to do with your IT department at work. I used to be able to get my exchange account also until recently. They changed requirements at my job and now there are all kinds of hoops you have to jump through including having an approved phone that they can send you a specific program to give that phone "rights" to your exchange account.

Not sure if that's the issue, but that's what it was for me.

phidelt82 is correct, it is an Exchange Server setting that is preventing you from accessing your Inbox. Like phidelt82, I just got cut off from mobile access (I'll bet we work for the same company), although I can access my account normally via Outlook Web Access from my personal home PC.

I'd dig deeper with your IT critters!

The config we have running here is with Exchange Server 2007. OWA installed and functioning. From what I understand, its actaully the OWA portion that is providing the "Push" email access. Happy with it so far but unfortunately you can sync to the Global Address List nor can you move mail to a different folder.

anyone with probs of setting alarms and no alarms going off. i know setting up the alarms good so far, mine work but my wife swears all some of hers does not go off. personally i think she just doesnt hear them. and what is the smart alarm do?

If she is running a task killer app like ATK she needs to go in the settings on her task killer and uncheck the alarm or every time she kills apps it'll kill her alarm as well.

i dont think she's good enough to use a task killer. task manager only she kills running programs in it to extened battery life

Those with pop/imap email problems may want to try K-9 mail. It works very well with imap push and has been very dependable on every phone that I have used it on. I always use imap if available from the mail server.

If you have multiple gmail accounts it's best to use the gmail app for those. You can access multiple gmail accounts with the gmail app on the Mesmerize.

How did you find the option to check for email every 5 minutes? The closest I can find is 3 hours. Please help as I'm not trusting the fact that I'm getting my email in a timely manner. Thanks
