I'm getting this error message when trying to send a photo to a new contact. I can send and receive texts from them and they can send photos to me, but I get this error message whenever I try to send a photo.

I've tried restarting my phone and sending photos to other contacts works fine. I've also tried over both wifi and mobile data.

I'm on the Nexus 6P running Oreo. Next I can try another app but figured someone else may also have this problem.

My first two guesses would be that the new contact was using an iPhone with iMessage, or the your MMS configuration in your APN settings were wrong.

Is it only this new contact? You can send pictures to anyone else?

SOLVED: I went into edit the contact and I originally had pasted a 9-digit xxx-xxx-xxxx number into a text message. When I edited the number field it automatically added the +1 country code. Sent a photo text immediately after and it sent just fine!

Thanks for everyone's quick responses and help! Probably a good time to play with 3rd party messaging apps anyways... not a big fan of the stock messages app but it mostly works fine.
