Message Notifications not dissappearing after reading the message

Hello. I am a bit frustrated with this issue, and I'm wondering if therequired is something to be done about it. I've noticed that if I get a message, I will go to the messages app and respond. But when I'm done responding, the message envelope icon is still in my status bar and the notification is still in the notification pull down thing. Is there a way to fix this so when I read a message it disappears from the notification menu?

Wondering the same. Also when I read a gmail message somewhere else it does not clear from the notifications on my S6. It's my biggest issue with my new phone.
 
My Edge running 5.1.1 deletes the notification. Mine is unbranded using stock firmware. Perhaps this is carrier related?
