I recently purchased a Samsung Mesmerize. While on a call I do not get a sound notification that I have received a new text message. It shows up on the screen that I have a new message, but deosn't alert me by sound that I have a new message. I don't know I have a new message until I have finished my phone call. My previous phone would beep, so I would know to look at the screen for a message. Anyone out there know how to make the phone beep or make a sound when it receives a message while on a call?

AFAIK the stock message app does not alert during phone calls. You can go to the messaging app and press the menu button, then choose settings. In that menu you will see if there are any options for that.
The stock messaging app is pretty limited in several ways, so my suggestion to you is to install a third party SMS app such as Handcent, Chomp, or GO. They all allow you to fine tune and customize your SMS notifications and other settings to a much greater degree than the stock app does. They're all free in the market.
