Help Message Tone HELP - transferring

Hello, excited to be back in the world of Android, yet I'm ready to scream! Lovin' my s5, but need some help. I'm trying to transfer over some ringtones to use as notifications, I have figured out how to save them as ringtones but not as a message tone. I have even tried the file transfer via my computer and they are not showing up when I'm trying to add them in the phone.
Any help I appreciate!

Yes I know most of those apks require root

I know years ago there was one I used unrooted, but no clue what it was now. Lol
