Help Messaging App locks. Force close pressing "M"

Lurker
I just purchased an AT&T S2. Issue is in the Messaging App, create a new message, enter recipient area. If I press the letter "m" to search for the name "mike", the app freezes and does a force close. No other letter causes this that I can see so far. Anyone else see this?

Android 2.3.4

Wow that's a new one. Do you have a contact in M? Maybe the first M name in your contacts is corrupt. Try deleting it and see if that helps.

Another option would be to create a new fake contact called M so it shows first and see if that fixes it.

Yes, do check your google contacts list for any corrupted entries starting with M. This could mean:

-Invalid/unsupported characters in their name/information
-Partially-completed fields, such as phone number, birthdate, etc.

If nothing in your contacts looks out of the ordinary, try disabling sync settings and clearing your contact/sync data. Once this is done, re-sync your contacts list.
