Help Messaging Contacts list differs from regular contact list

I am having a very similar problem to the guy in this thread: http://androidforums.com/samsung-captivate/127888-doubled-contacts-messaging-list.html

However, since his thread got zero responses, and I didn't want to resurrect a dead thread...

Basically what is happening is that I have disabled google from syncing to my contacts list on my phone, and it seems to work in that if I open my contacts list, it is only the contacts from my phone, which is exactly what I want.

However, if I get to my contacts list via messaging, i.e.: tap messaging > new message > add recipient from contacts list, the contacts list that shows up is not my "normal" contacts list. Instead what shows is a list containing my phone list AND my google contacts list. I do not want this.

How do I get my "messaging contacts list" to only show my in phone list of contacts (the same contact list as when i just tap "contacts" from the home screen) ?

I have tried going into contacts list setting and telling it to only show contacts from my phone, but it doesn't seem to make any difference at all in my messaging contact list.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Am researching whether or not I want to upgrade from EVO 4G to the Epic 4G Touch, so not sure it will answer your Q, but on my current phone, the messaging does the same thing. I'd never noticed it before because I usually just type the first few letters of the contact name.

Not sure if there is a way to access & change the default choice for messaging contacts under Applications or not? If there is, I couldn't find it.

As much fun as I've had using Android, it is not always "customizable".

HTH,
JaniceK
