Help Messaging icon incorrectly shows one new message

mikeh420

Lurker
I have a ZTE model Z667 with Android 4.4.2. The Messaging icon shows the red circle with a "1" in it but there is no new message. A message came in from my provider about billing, and I hit the return key (next to home key on bottom) which cleared the message but left the Messaging icon showing 1 new message.

I have cleared all messages, and even went into Apps/Messaging to Clear Data, but the "1" is still there. Is there anything further I can do?

Thanx in advance

I used to have this happen on one of my old phones. Can't remember what I did now (think it just went after flashing new ROM). I would suggest it might be a message you have missed opening, but you have deleted them all so no. Next step would be to clear the cache, but you have cleared data so that's cleared the cache too. Just have a quick look in Settings>Apps, scroll across until you get to "All" tab and look through if there is an app called messagecount, or badgeprovider or something along those lines. If there is, clear that cache. If not I have nothing to suggest apart from factory reset, but that's a little drastic for a message counter issue. But if you have time to backup and restore and it gripes you that much, that's all I can suggest.
