Messaging SMS templates

I had a phone with Android 2.2.1 and when composing an SMS I had the option through menu selection to use a message template. I just got a new phone with Android 2.3.4 and there now is no template list to pick from and no way of creating a template. I upgraded the software to 4.0.4 but there are still no templates. Am I missing something or is this no longer possible?

Uh, what phones are we talking about? Android phones don't have the same interfaces, even if they have the same version. An Samsung with 4.0.4 doesn't have the same apps or options as an HTC with the same Android version.

Oh ok. I now have a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S. The old one was an LG Optimus not that that really matters I guess. I thought the standard messaging app would be standard to Android OS.

No they're not. HTC, Samsung, Sony, LG and Motorola all removed the stock SMS Android app and use their own. Not sure how it is for Sony, but Samsung also does not actually have templates, but you can attach any pre-written text from the Memo app into the SMS field. So you can probably do the same thing.
