By clearing the system cache, he meant turn the phone off, access recovery menu and clear system cache from there, not from within settings app. Just to be clear, that's what you did right?

yes, im using twrp. so i cleared normal cache+art cache (wiped cache partition).

Obviously the rooting has had an undesirable effect/caused a bug with the app.

i dont think so. it was working for more than 4 months now.

Really? well i've never had an issue with the app for over a year. I'm not rooted.
