Metro PCS vs. Virgin Mobile

apparently VM is having issues with their data tracking system so at the moment their 4g data is unthrottled.

nope that is why 3g is unthrottled on the evo.it has nothing at all to do with 4g.i asked before buying a evo and other people asked on their twiiter page and everyone was told the same thing.that there are no plans to throttle 4g.


edit-im confused why you linked that thread.i take it you are saying that when they say they have no plans on throttling 4g atm means they will eventually.

Its kind of like you remember before metro introduced new $70 plan? how the $50 plan had a 1gb limit but never really counted anything towards your data limit? its probaly like that vm is probaly setting up their network right then when they done bam everything is counted towards your monthly allowance.

dont know why they dont change the website.now keep in mind sprint has an unlimited bandwidth contract with clearwire so it doesnt cost them anything to have 4g unlimited.

now imo its only a matter of time before the 4 last remaining carriers that offer true unlimited data(both or just 4g) start to cap it since the towers are getting way to congested.


oh and vm data tracking is working on every other phone.like i said before the speculation is they cant tell if you are using 3g or 4g so they have both unlimited right now on the evo.one would of thought they would of had a way to tell the difference before the phone launched but i guess it wasnt a priority to them.

yeah it was limited "media streaming" and they didnt enforce it either as you could watch youtube all day long and not use a byte of your allowance.



so its just on the evo? so any other phone is gonna be under the limits?

i havent heard of any of the 3g phones not being throttled after 2.5 but i dont really read about them.i only came back to vm in july after 8 months with t mobile because of the unlimited 4g.they should be announcing a new wimax phone on the 22 so it will be interesting to see if they mention anything about data during the press conference.

now if metropcs would actually update where they have lte i would of went with them instead.i would of never even knew i had lte here if i didnt click on philly and scrolled over to where i live 2 hours outside of philly.

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but I can't understand why Metro users are making such a big deal about Virgin throttling 3G after 2.5GB. Yes, your 3G will be throttled but it is unlimited -- they just slow you down, you can still use as much as you want.

More to the point, the speed after it is throttled, 256kbps, is still faster than Metro's unthrottled speed, 200kbps. So seems like Virgin still is better; 1000 kbps for the first 2.5GB of data and 256kbps for the rest would seem to be a lot better than 200kbps for all data.

More to the point, the speed after it is throttled, 256kbps, is still faster than Metro's unthrottled speed, 200kbps. So seems like Virgin still is better; 1000 kbps for the first 2.5GB of data and 256kbps for the rest would seem to be a lot better than 200kbps for all data.

MetroPCS plans on eventually dumping their CDMA network and completely moving over to LTE which is why they're putting out more 4G phones.

So it doesn't matter if their 3g is slow. No one goes to metro for 3G anyway.

Though virgin has unthrottled 4G which is why Metro countered with their $55 unlimited plan.

I love my HTC Evo V I get around 8-9 mbs in Newark nj. on metro I could never get past 4. nevertheless it all depends on location
