Dont worry your cdma s3 will continue to work for over 18 more months, if you decide not to switch right now. And as long as it can use VOLTE it should continue to work for at least 30 more months.

Also you can get a cheaper gsm phone or used one just make sure its t mobile branded or unlocked with tmobile frequencies.

You can but you have to check to see if your area has been refarmed by TMo for 1900 spectrum. If it has you'll be good to go on HSPA+21 speeds. If not you'll be limited to Edge speeds.
