Metro unlimited plan beware

Today was turkey day, and sure enough a turkey came calling today. I received a text today from Metro stating I'm in the top 5% of data users this month and that I should use wifi to help avoid reduced speeds. Even though I'm paying top dollar for the unlimited plan, they are still looking to throttle me. This just might be the last straw. They have been trying to nickle and dime me ever since I signed up in March. There is no higher plan ($70) so they are doing this, which is IMO illegal. It's time to fight back.

P.S... They give no figures of data use when I called, cause I know for a fact November was a light month in my data usage. No Hockey Games. Not that I keep track of such things since I'm unlimited anyway. Point is,... it was a light month in data, trust me. What's gonna be when I really go heavy on data. I have always been a heavy user from the get go,..... that's why I got metro's unlimited plan.

Just be forewarned unlimited 4g high speed access might not be unlimited.

Will see if my speed drops,.... stay tuned.
 
That stinks. I'm south of Miami Florida and 4g sucks. I would have to really try to use 5g. I said it before and I will say it again. What holds MetroPCS back is metro. They could be much more but are not.
 
in my area the 4g got better, i only got 3mb and now i get 6. but i have one question did i get throttle, my youtube videos don't look HQ at all. i tethered once and i think that's the problem but my speed it still 6mb. is it my phone or can they mess with my youtube
 
In YouTube settings it has start video in HQ. or when playing a video tap the screen in lower left for HQ. If the sun moon and stars are in alignment I might pull 3m down load.

lol i know that even on HQ and i get 6mb up and down it still looks like poop:confused: .sometimes it comes back for a day but then its gone again

Hello. I am thinking of getting the LG Connect during this current sale from Metro. I'm in the lower Florida Keys and wondering which plan to use. Could you recommend? Would an unlimited 4G LTE not be worth it because of this area?

Thanks in advance for any and all ideas. This will be my first data phone and its' intention is to replace as far as possible my AT&T DSL which I am cutting off.

if your going to use it for tethering you will need the unlimited data plan plus the 10$ tether add on
 
I would get the $50 unlimited plan I don't know the keys might have good service. But I would look at the Motion. I would not buy a phone with older OS with no hope of update when the newer everything is the same price. My kid loves hers and has had no problems with it.

Do NOT get the LG Connect! The battery drains quickly, and it overheats!
 
The battery does go a little fast. Root tweek and extended battery. over heating was fixed with ZVA update.

I'm up in palm beach & I went from 3mbps to 9mbps, guess down south hasn't had more spectrum allocated
 
Well, it happened. It's official. The 4g unlimited plan is NOT UNLIMITED. Regardless if they feel my data use is excessive this month, they don't take into consideration that it's practically the end of the month or that this is the first time my data use, according to them, is in the top 5%. They throttled me anyway, to the point of making my internet pratically useless. 0.03 Mbs download speed. Slower than dial up.

I'm going to the corporate store, to see these stats confirming I'm in the top 5% of all Metro PCS users. They just can't text you stating this so arbitrarily. If my internet use is so high this month, I will probably get this message every month from now on. Cause my data use this month is not close to being one of my heaviest.

Even if nobody has high usage,.... are they are still going to punish the top 5%?

In the terms and conditions, it states I cannot take this to court. Must be settled through an arbitrator.
 
I'll bet your right. I had problems with them in April about data use, when they brought in the new plans. I'll bet when I go to the Metro corporate store,... they won't produce any stats on my usage or that I'm in the top 5%.

If I was to get flagged as an excessive user, it should have been the first month when I downloaded 11 gigs of data just to see if it was truly unlimited.

And being they are using a percentage, they will drop the speeds of whoever uses the most data, whether or not it's a high amount or not. Thats why I'm furious. This was a slow month for me, so it must have been a slow month for everybody, in data use. And each month their bandwidth will drop, being their throttling the top users by percentage due to nobody wanting to be throttled. So each month, the throttle limit will drop. The top 5% next month or next year will be a lower amount in actual gigs downloaded. So now say 15 gigs is alot. 6 months from now 8 gigs might be the trottle limit. It will keep dropping using a percentage.
 
so if there are only going after the top 5% easy fix everyone else needs to step up and use a lot more data than the top 5% can use more data before being throttled.

Makes sense on paper, but those that have been throttled will be more frugal next month and then the 5% next month will do the same, and so on and so on. There is no end to it.

There is no limit, because it is an unlimited plan. That's why they are using a percentage. They can't come out and say,... you went over your limit. Which would be more straightforward. It's a big con. The quote "no limit" will drop lower and lower.
 
I've gone over 25gb for the past few months and have not heard from Metro once about it, so take this with a grain of salt.
 
Well I got that texted and was throttled. I don't use even nowhere near 25gb. I'm on the 55 dollars unlimited plan. Metro will lose a lot of customers like this. I would move to smart mobile but i have too many metro phones.

I'm not sure about that. According to them, I'm in the top 5% of all metro users. Not just NYC, NYS, But probably the entire USA.

You probably used alot more data. The lifetime data counter on the connect is way off.

I just downloaded Onavo and I have went through 12 gigs in 9 days beginning Dec 1st. And I am trying to conserve my data! It wouldn't surprise me if I have used 70-100 gigs in a month previously, with this new knowledge. But I have only received the throttle in Nov. This has to be something new they are doing. Cause like I said, Nov. was a slow month for me. Plus it's only recently people have been complaining about this. Seems like there are alot of people in the top 5%. When Dec. came my speed went back up with the new billing cycle. I'm keeping track of my data this month. I installed a firewall too,... to keep data down, and improve battery life.

Did you know in data/system/ there are usage stats of when you were throttled? I am not gonna help their cause, by keeping stats for them. Deleted.
 
Check and see what you have go to settings, about phone, sw version (MS840ZVA). ZVA was a real update that fixes phone issues like over heating. *228 #5 updates your prl that tells your phone what tower to connect to.

why are you paying 70.00 per month. I pay 55.00/month and that includes unlimited everything including insurance.
