Root [MetroPCS] a bit of ROM advice please.

TWRP is highly recommended. Make sure you have done a back up. If you have not...do it now. Do a FULL wipe. Which includes Sysytem,Cache,Dalvik,Factory Reset, the whole nine yards.
After Flashing let it sit for a few minutes...Reboot...Then you will need to Odin the NB4 modem (if you prefer).

Seems like if you have TWRP and Odin, you should be fine to flash :D

Am I correct to assume I won't be able to downgrade back to 4.2.2 or 4.3 because of the new bootloader? And I won't be able to return to stock until metro releases a an official 4.4.2 rom?

Flashing the rom will not change your bootloader. Most roms only include the system stuff and not the bootloader and modem ect. Your bootloader will only change if you use the official samsung update to 4.3 or 4.4. As long as you stay on the 4.2 bootloader, you can hide the fact that you flashed stuff. That is only important if you want to use the samsung warranty. If you have the metropcs payed warranty it really doesn't matter. Most just tell them they lost it.

Good choice on the ROM... I have it and i love it. There is a more recent update on it, too. Came out yesterday in fact. Try the KTSGS4 Kernel along with it if you want to play with performance and battery life. But that was the first ROM i flashed on to my S4 and i loved it... Only after using it for a few days did i decide to flash the NB4 modem (Which showed MUCH improvement for me but you may get different results) and then i flashed the kernel last.

Find the kernel here: [KERNEL] [INT'L][AOSP/TW/GE - 4.4/4.3/4.2][04/07/2014] KT-SGS4 - NAE - KTweaker - xda-developers

Just make sure you get one for a touchwiz ROM if your using Insane Kit Kat !
 
Almost all international S4 (I9505) kernels work in our Metro S4. Faux, jeboo, KT and AEL. Personally I recommend AEL and Faux. Both are excellent in battery life and very smooth.

Is it normal that the signal bars are invisible?

What settings do you have for the kernel?

Use Wanam to make you have 4 bars and you will be good. OG battery messes with the signal icons but In Sickness' Insane Kitkat v9 the problem will be salved but he is still working on v9.

You wont have any issues with your bootloader and unless you upgrade to higher than 4.2.2 then you can flash to 4.4.2 and then back to 4.2.2.

If you go to the xda website for insane the insane kit Kat ROM and scroll a little below the description and v9 download link.... You will find a "Sickness Edition" which is what the DEV "aka the Sickness" uses and has configured it the way he likes things. I'm using it now and I like it.

Sickness edition 2 should be out sometime soon to include the new stuff that was recently release in v9
