Root [MetroPCS/CDMA] No call, or data connections. After flashing Flash-Counter-Reset-d2mtr.zip. .

Hello my fellow Metro's.

Ive got an issue that Im hoping I can get some help with here. Recently I lost my phones data and phone connection. Im not sure if this had anything to do with it, but it started after flashing the Flash-Counter-Reset-d2mtr.zip. But I have used this before without issues. Below are the symptoms, and what I have tried so far. I am now trying a full reset to stock to see if that helps. But I doubt it will, so Im posting this in the mean time in hopes someone knows what might be wrong.

Phone symptoms:

1) Noticed no service icon
2) When trying to make call get "No network available"
3) In notification area stuck at "searching for service"
4) When checking in settings/ about device/ status get blank screen,
then I get "unfortunately the process com.android.phone has stopped" error.
5) After phone goes to sleep it wont awake until forcing reboot
by holding power button
6) When turning on data get "insert sim card to access network services"
7) Checked on Metros site, and phone and card show as still active, bill paid.
8) I thought that maybe I needed to reprogram it so I went into the hidden menu and noticed that my MDN and MSID are both blank. I tried to input the numbers that I used before when Metro walked me through it, but I cant remember the correct MSID number. I tried to input what I thought was the right MSID, but after a reboot they are both blank again.

Ive tried reboots, removing battery, reinstalling sim card, then restored 2 known good nandroids. Still same thing. If I had to guess I would say that my sim card went bad, but thats just a guess. So Im hoping my fellow Metros can help me figure this one out. Thanks

I know exactly the issue is within reading the first 2 lines, for me if i flash the counter reset and restore LJ3 i have this issue even some of my backup sometimes but the only thing that fix this is that i know of is Firmware archive | Samsung Updates using odin. I didn't mention it in the forums due to not seeing it no where and started doing a little homework myself.

I normally have weird characters on my min/mdn when this happen and i try to reprogram, but the fix above fix everything for me, but you will loose everything on your internal sd card.

Also it's good to keep your mdn/min somewhere on the pc for futer refs like on sticky notes or word pad.

Thanks for the reply. Wouldnt using Shabby's restore work also? And would that method also erase the internal SD?

Yes, I think so. I was on the most current FW.

Yeppers, I just did it to mines to get the same issues you are having with everything Unknown, and now I am using odin to get everything back.

You will need to dail *228 and update roaming list to get your prl once it finishes.

Ok. Maybe there should be a warning in that thread that this will happen. Is it because it was designed for the older firmware?

Just started the odin restore. After this will I be able to just restore my most recent nandroid? Or will I need to run the OTA update first?

It's up to you, but you will need to flash twrp again using odin and you can flash the counter reset to put it back to 0 again before updating to LJ3.

Ok. Im back up and running, rooted, twrp, busybox, Super SU. Used Shabbys return to stock method and files. Now to restore all my internal SD, then restore my nandroid. Thanks again Nuttmeg. Hopefully this will help anyone else that makes this mistake, or even better warn them beforehand.

Hey Nuttmeg, I have a question. Since I was able to fix it last night, and then restore my most recent nandroid I have another issue. When I connect to Kies it says "Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies. Current firmware version: PDA:LJ3 / PHONE:LJ1 / CSC:LJ3 (MTR). The firmware I used to fix the issue I was having is R530MVQALJ1.tar.

It never use to say this. Normally it would just tell me that my version is the most current. So Im not sure what happened here. I googled this and some people said it was because "your phone firmware CSC ( dial *#1234# to see this) and your phone Sales Code, have to geographically match. But isnt the CSC I have already the right one? Confused here.

UPDATE: I decided to try the oldest nandroid I have when I was on LJ1 and that seemed to fix the KIES issue, because it was now saying update available, rather than the unsupported FW error. So Im going to use a backup from 2-13-13 and see if that works. Im guessing that the R530MVQALJ1 is not the firmware that my device was shipped with and that is what was causing the non supported error in KIES?

you will get that error from kies if you are on the old firmware, but if you flash LJ3 thos issues will go away.

Thats weird because normally when Im on LJ1 I get the message that a new update is available. When Im on LJ3 I get the message that my firmware is the most current. I am on LJ3 right now and I still get the firmware not supported error. Heres a pic of the error Im getting, its angled a little because I took it with my phone connected with the usb cable.
