Root [MetroPCS/CDMA] Question about giving this phone away

If I were to get on GSM plans with a new phone, I could still give this phone to someone on the CDMA network (say, they have a LG Motion) and they could easily switch to the S3 with no issues, right?

If the phone is on MetroPCS, it's not reported stolen and there's no money owing on the account, they'd have no problem.
