Root [MetroPCS/CDMA] Unlocking SCH-R530M.

Hello all. Well I'm leaving the country after a couple of months so I thought I'd get this out of the way first. I tried the unlocking method on the forum but it didn't work for me. I was wondering if any of you know of a good website that will unlock it? Thanks :)

a global device is unlocked in the first place. we cant get any form of gsm going so i really doubt there would be any site out there willing to give/sell how to unlock

so wait how will we use tmobiles towers when the merge happens cause aint tmob gsm?
tmo will prolly use metros existing cmda for metro for a good while. My guess is when tmo phases metro out all together they will switch it all to gsm and just use the LTE they acquired with metro.

And the SGH-R530M is prolly like the Nexus 4 is. The Nexus 4 has LTE radios but no antennas for it. The Metro S3 may have gsm radios, but prolly no antennas for it as its meant for cdma use. ;)

IF the proposed merger takes place...current T-Mobile customers will continue to use TM's GSM towers and MetroPCS customers will continue to use CDMA. Contrary to popular rumor, MetroPCS will not be phased our or become T-Mobile. T-Mobile and MetroPCS will be run as two separate divisions of the yet to be created T-Mobile parent company.

As an analogy...Coca-Cola sells both Coke and Sprite. MetroPCs will be the "Sprite" of the company.

Over the course of the next few years both GSM and CDMA will be phased out in favor of LTE VOIP (VOLTE). No customer will be forced to change plans or companies. In fact, most will not notice any (detrimental) changes. MetroPCS customers can expect to see a wider variety of phones, faster data and possibly even lower price plans.

Currently, NO MetroPCS phones have any GSM capabilities.

So far tmobile hasn't given a time frame for getting rid of GSM but CDMA is 2015. And with the VoLTE, tmobile said they wouldnt expand further than metro has already got for the moment but in the future they may

I think ya need to explain what the terms unlock means so that some members can understan more clearly what they are asking. since unlocking is a loose term for beaing able to use a gsm phone with any sim card and not a cdma phone to be used another cdma phone carrier.

unlocked phone = use any other phone carrier's sim card to use on their network

flashed phone = use cdma phone on another cdma phone company

i think people getting the concept about flashed phones and unlocked phones twisted.

yes metro's lte phones use whats called a uicc or universal integrated cercuit card and it looks like a sim card feels like a sim card but whats the difference? well dosnt hold user info like normal sim cards does like contacts sms messages and what not.

metro pcs uses a uicc card made by a company called gemalto. heres some more details about it.

MetroPCS Selects Gemalto To Provide LTE UICC & OTA Platform

Gemalto announced that MetroPCS has selected Gemalto to provide a Long Term Evolution (LTE) over-the-air platform and Universal Integrated Circuit Cards for its 2010 fourth generation LTE broadband service launch. Gemalto’s technology will enable MetroPCS to provide its subscribers with high-speed Internet access from their mobile devices. MetroPCS, the fifth largest facilities-based carrier in the US, offers unlimited, flat-rate, no signed contract wireless services to its more than 6.6 million subscribers.

Gemalto’s over-the-air remote management platform will help MetroPCS manage wireless devices and subscriber service delivery in its combined LTE and CDMA network. The LTE authentication is provided by the Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC), a next-generation SIM card that will be used by MetroPCS in LTE mobile devices to identify subscribers and their services and manage secure access to the wireless network.

"The more customers get of mobile broadband, the more they feel the need for speed," said Andrew M. Seybold, CEO & Principal Consultant, Andrew Seybold, Inc. “LTE not only ratchets up the data rates, the fact that it is IP-based will lead to even smarter devices, smarter software and smarter networks. Subscribers are going to love LTE, and the operators who get there first will have a real competitive advantage. MetroPCS is leading the regional carriers and its LTE suppliers like Gemalto are opening the path."

“MetroPCS is at the forefront of wireless network technology, as they are among the first companies worldwide to start the migration to LTE,” said S
