Root [MetroPCS/CDMA] Very Important! backup nv Before flashing!

Just want to add that the same thing that others have mentioned happened to me yesterday. I wanted to try Morph rom. So I flashed it, and didnt have 4G afterwards. This was before I knew about the apns-conf.xml" in system/etc that needs to be replaced with the stock one. Anyway I thought it might be an issue with loss of min/MEID as Shabby had mentioned earlier in this thread. So I used terminal emulator to restore the NV that I had successfully backed up (reboot with the 2 blue lines). It rebooted to the logo and just stayed there for good. So I tried to same thing connected to my PC using adb reboot nvrestore. Same thing it rebooted, but stayed at the logo, and after several reboots just kept doing the same thing. So in order to fix it I had to adb reboot recovery, and then restore my TWRP, which fixed it. So for some reason the NV restore didnt work for me either using terminal emulator, or ADB. Im all set now, but just thought I should let this thread know.

it should be used when esn is missing also known as imei number. other things such as phone number and min number takes 2 sec to add it back through hidden menu. the real issue here the esn/imei number onces thats gone theres no way to add it back.

Okay so you say that when your phone loses it's imei and esn then you should restore this backup, but how do we know that our imei or esn is missing, like what if we are just in a bad service spot, or just really unlucky with their service with where we live, like how can we be absolutely sure that we lost our imei/esn so we don't restore the backup without needing to.
Also, here on the forum there are two methods listed, one on PC and one on Android itself, can't and shouldn't we just do both? If not both, then which is better than the other? How do we restore our imei/esn from the PC if we backup to our PC with the second method as well?
Thanks, any and all help is greatly appreciated. :)

If u go to settings then scroll all the way down to about phone then select status you will see your phone's info like the imei/ESN number your phone number your min number your prl and other essentials. So if your imei was unknown that would mean your ESN is missing and all you would need to do is a nv restore. Your number and min number can be easily re programmed back into your phone in matter of a few sec. Its your imei/ESN number thats once gone will be almost impossible to get back unless you did a nv back up.

yea, thanks for telling me that, i did it again and i saw the blue lettering, said something like copy something to something or watever, anyways thanks. :)

How do you back up nv files you backed up on phone and put those files on sd card or computer??

you cant, its on your phone only, but theres no need to put it on your computer or sd card, this area of your phone will stay for as long as the phone lives, so the only way you would probably lose this data/backup is if you broke your phone completely physically, or did severe water damage where it wouldnt turn on anymore.
you cant put it on your pc yet...but the higher ups (lol) are probably working on this though. so sit tight. :)

Nv is stored in a special place on your device called nand and not nandroid shabby had to explain to me the difference.

To those people that did the NV restore and it got stuck in the samsung screen this is for you i don't know if it was a miracle or just what needs to be done to make this work but first i swapped out the twarp recovery for cwm in odin, then
i went into terminal and did the nv restore after that i did a Odin restore with firmware "R530MVQALJ3" then after it rebooted into the stock softwere it just started working dont ask why just do it and see what happens pm me for help.

to who it may concern i let the phone sit on the samsung screen 15 mins,i dont know if when you have the nv restore failing issue if only a coplete o.s reinstallation
thru odin after nv restore will fix that issue, to my betters in a.f ill give you all the info i gatherd pm me.

ps:it worked for me dont pm saying i lied cuz i dont even know if what i did really worked or if some or more of those steps are useless or what so dont hate felles just help.

Seems another person has confirmed nvrestore worked fine only after going back to stock so my assumption it might fail or stay frozen on any asop rom. If so conclusion is to restore back to stock then perform nvrestore. Either recovering back to stock or flashing Odin back to stock should work anyways I will update op if more people can confirm this.

I had to do an nvrestore just the other day. I was on liquidsmooth 4.2.2 did a backup in twrp, did the reboot nvrestore in terminal emulator and after that phone just stayed off. Didn't worry, booted into recover and restored my backup. Worked perfectly. :D

Same thing here. Didn't need to restore back to stock, just restored my last backup, and everything worked again.
Something about LS I guess...

Will it still be backed up if I go back to stock? Will it still be there no matter how many roms I flash or Do I gotta keep backing up?

You only gotta do it once and u can flash or revert back to any recovery as much as you want. Nothing you flash or install will affect your nand. So its safer than money in the bank.

I actually ended up with my min wiped out after trying to reset my flash counter. Tried to restore via reboot nvrestore and soft bricked my phone. I had to bust out Odin and flash stock to get my service back and phone working

Reason that happen was because you was on LJ3 and the flash counter was made for LJ1.

I suggest anyone to use mobile odin, and the newest counter reset that shabby has made for us.
