Root [MetroPCS/CDMA] Very Important! backup nv Before flashing!

i suppose shabby would have to do a zip for stock ics rom but i dont see how this wont work on stock.

the zip file failed to flash for me. Just a question i probaly know the answer to this but would this help fix a phone that is already semi-bricked with this prob and it never had its nv file backed up?

No it's not a flashable zip, you extract it to the PC.

OK just flashed the latest cm10 zip. got the same opening line that n4zty shows, but when I try to type the info in nothing happens. LOL, maybe TE just doesn't like me.

Oh well. I'll check back tomorrow to see what's up.

thanks mikey thats 1 confirmed stock user rooted with twrp recovery.

also for any confusion this isnt something you will see in twrp or cwm like shab said this saves to your nand not nandroid so you wont see the actual file anywhere. hope that helps solve any confusion.

:p:congrats: Hahahahah, finally got it. I went into preferences & input method. Character-based was on instead of word-based. Duuuuuuuuhhhhh lol.
Important tip. Use correct input method.

Good tip bud and thanks for sharing perhaps these other people that are having the same prob can go ahead and do what you did to solve their prob. also would like to add for those wondering where the file is being saved to like shabby pointed out a few times it saves to your nand not nadroid like i thought he meant. its a special location in your phone where such vital info is stored. anyways thanks again to shabby hes a true champ for sharing this with us now we can continue to flash roms without any worries!:D

Shabby what do you mean its save to Nand? For example if I created a Nand back up of my stock ROM when i rooted while I had signal that means my NV files are saved there. Becaus I lost signal when I was using CM10 and decided to go back to my stock nand back up and I forgot to perform Wipe Delete Factory and Dalvcache and re wrote something and that's when I lost signal and my MEID was showing as B0000000. So if I go back to my stock nand ROM can I reinstall my NV files using command prompt.
Sorry to ask what's the difference between Nand and NandAndroid?

no it doesnt save to a nandroid, it saves to youir nand im trying to get a way for you to actually have the files yourself

nand is the chip that holds all your crap, think of it like the hard drive with windows and you have /system which is like your windows folder, program files is like /data. the nvbackup gets saved to your hard drive in a place you cant get to, nandroid is like doing a windows backup it saves select parts of your nand.

The verizon variant had some issues regarding EFS/IMEI being wiped out with roms. this can lead to loss of min/MEID etc which means no more data.

normally you might as well throw the phone away cuz there is no way to fix it unless you did a backup of the EFS items. if you dont do a backup and this happens to you feel free to brick the device, at least then metropcs might swap it out for ya.

adb reboot nvbackup

or if you have terminal emulator;
su
reboot nvbackup

that is going to use samsungs utility to backup your NV items (trust me you want that) should teh day ever come where you need it a simple adb reboot nvrestore should restore it back for ya :)

please bear in mind that it only works so long as you backed it up first..

i know n4zty posted a thread about this, i wrote this all up as i was walking him through it. reason why im posting this thread? i plan to add more to it if this is confirmed working

You can restore min through the hidden menu on the stock rom using anycut, but it requires you to return to stock obviously :o

min and phone number isnt the big issue here that is easily reprogrammed. the more serious issue is here the nv file which holds your imei/esn number once thats gone theres no way to put it back, i got a buddy that had it done to his gs3 and we tried everything to get it fixed but nothing. i checked on xda forums and they all agree people should do a backup of their nv file or else consider your gs3 a really expensive paperweight.
