Hey, this has probably been repeated once here or there but i couldnt find it, can i flash a custom rom thatll allow me to connect to the tmobile network w/ a sim card without having to unlock the device? and if not, whats the best way to unlock it?

im not sure i understand the question metropcs is partnered with tmobile for ages now so your already on a tmobile network lol

so i can get a phone that is locked on metropcs and put a tmobile sim on it and itll work? without needing to go through the unlocking process

why are you wanting to put a tmobile sim in a metropcs phone.no the sims as i recall are specifically designed for the phone

metropcs is already on the tmobile network but you use their own cards so why arent you just getting a metropcs account.
im not following here somewhere

I bought this phone used on ebay for $40 a week ago. Went to metro pcs and they recommended http://www.releasemycode.com/. Paid $20 and it took 4 days. Entered the unlock code that metro pcs customer service refused to give me and it worked! Like no joke, I was totally surprised and thought it was a scam. I'm on carbon with a tmobile sim card and everything works great. The only thing that seems to be buggy is wifi calling on the jellybean rom with tmobile.

Not saying it can't be done but what's the point since metro uses tmobile network and it's unlimited calling and data on metro anyways.I don't really see the reasoning behind this the metro version of the f6 is better than the other variants.even tmobile owners rather have the metro version.I still don't see the point but good for you

its basically for someone who has a tmobile account and doesnt want to switch to metro but is offered a metro pcs version of the f6 for free

ahh i dunno what tmobile offers sorry.thanks for explaining
i would think tmobile would do it themselves honestly.just like if you turn a gsm phone to metro theyll put on their network.eh could be wrong tho.

I asked a t-mobile employee about the difference between Metro PCS and T-mobile, and they explained that they're in the process of completely buying out Metro PCS, which is why they use the same towers. But the big difference is, that Metro PCS is limited to only towers that they've paid for, meaning you're only getting a fraction of coverage compared to T-mobile. Which is why Metro PCS is slightly cheaper. With T-mobile, you're getting their already existing 4G LTE towers on top of Metro PCS's towers. I also like T-mobile's policy to not charge data for music and video streaming, even though that's a form of an internet fast lane in and of itself...

As far as I know, the firmware code responsible for sim locking/unlocking does not reside in any partitions that would be modified by the installation of a custom rom. So you can't remove the sim lock by flashing a custom rom. To remove the sim lock, you'd need to ask the carrier for an unlock code. If you can't do that or they won't give you, then you'd probably need to buy a sim unlock code. Buy from a seller that will provide refund in case the code doesn't work. The price should be only a few bucks for the F6.

You may be able to accomplish this by flashing the T-Mobile stock firmware for the f6 via kdz. I got a Samsung Avant last fall and a few people have done this trick with the avant by flashing the T-Mobile firmware.

Use a paid service for an unlock code if your service provider won't oblige. I'm on T-MOBILE & own the METRO PCS variant & had to get an unlock code.
I can't remember if I tried to activate my T-MOBILE SIM Card before or after flashing a METRO PCS based stock ROM (XPERION ROM).
Should run you less than $10.

Bookmarked that page for next time. Not too angry since I only spent $20, but I'm glad there's cheaper faster options out there!

It's also worth mentioning that MetroPCS does give out unlock codes for free now but only if you've had the phone activated on their network for at least 90 days

Yeah which is actually a lot of freaking money if you don't have Metro PCS since you'd have to sign up and pay for 3 months of phone service :/

Lol I wasn't suggesting that someone who doesn't already have a metropcs account pay for 90 days of service just to get their phone unlocked. That post was aimed at people who have already had service with Metro and may want to switch to another network.
Edit: corrected a typo

just hit ebay. there's lots of venders there you can pay a few bucks to and they will give you the unlock code in a email, with the directions. They are cheap and quick if that's what you want. it took me a half hour. The free one Game theory mentions above only let me do 1 phone a day.
